I couldn't seem to find too much about hotswapping x3 modchips for flashing. From what I did find, a lot of people seem to have got it to work; hell, I'm almost positive I did before too but no dice this time. I have a 1.0 xbox with an x3 chip installed and works fantastic; however, I have two chips that are either a) broken or b) have no bios, even a backup one. I booted with each of them in the xbox on every possible bank combination, backup or otherwise and the system frags. But, the working chip boots without a hitch. So, I tried hotswapping with the protection off of course and I get something similiar to an 'unknown bios halting error'. I use1.d flashbios 3.03 and just switched the chips before the flash. Then I decided to try x3 config menu bios flashing from hdd and I got something similar to 'turn write protection off'... I turned it on and then off again to make extra sure but no dice. I read somewhere that 3.03 has had errors with v1.6 consoles... perhaps these chips have a 1.6 bios(?) I'm not used to having chips that are unfixable. I'm going to try to switch mobos and install the working x3 and go from there. Any input would be appreciated!
I have a 1.6 that has a pinheader and LPC rebuild already and will be willing to try them out for you and flash the proper bios to the chip. But if you push eject and power at the same time you should be able to get into the back up bios and that will work on any version of the chip. I use 3.03 unauthorized and it works everytime. The great part is that version has the eeprom flash tool on it also. If you want to send me the chips I am sure that I can get them to work. Also sometimes I have trouble with using component cables seeing what is displayed on the screen and sometime it is black. Don't triple post, use the edit button!
That is right they require different bioses. But I put the other bios in the other 1024k bank. This way all my X3 chips can be used in either motherboard version.
