Hmm. I remember when Dell were a company that just sold computers. And everything they sold was their own brand.
You mean if you want to download stuff? No HD doesn't keep you offline. You can get a 20gb hard drive and 3 months of live through MS for 30$ if you have an arcade.
You mean it was some one else's product with a dell lable slapped on it. (I had a pretty awsome sony CRT monitor I got from dell long ago that was branded as a dell device, but actualy was just a sony monitor).
My parents bought me a computer around 2000 - 2001 from compaq. Strangely enough, it was a Sony monitor, with a compaq logo on it. In the control panel its even listed as a Sony ( which is what made me realize it was a sony)
They always had a custom case design (to say nothing of their cabling), but that was as far as their "own brand" stuff went - they have always been a retailer of other people's shit as far as the important internal hardware was concerned. I'd hate them more, but honestly the systems I installed at work were very solid of late. I dislike the completely custom chassis stuff they do on basic principles, but I can't fault their hardware any more. Home consumer service is dire, but their corporate service is shit hot, so I have to give them a nod for that. You're right, though, seeing them sell 360s is a bit weird.
