What? you though you wont get whooped this time? that M$ would not make the same stupid mistake again?

Guess what? NO, the X360 is goin to be even expensier than the Xbox was, at GBP£299. For the non-british that are thinking "thats cool, the same as ours" Well think again man, the actual currency equivalent is USD$537 :smt1069

Holy shit, and if it couldnt be worst, the games are goin for GBP£45, or USD$80!!! Spank me and call me your sister!!! :smt082

Obviously, theres an explanation for this:
"The original plan was UKP 249, but now that Sony is talking about the PS3 being expensive, UKP 299 is looking more likely,"

Does anyone knows what an oligopoly its? Well, apparently M$ had no better idea to take a bigger part of the euro market (a place completely dominated by sony for 2 generations in a row) that selling their new console as expensive as the PS3 may be.

Anyways, the source says the price its not final, yet is the more probable one. Maybe a wave of emails could change this decision.

    >end of line

you an argie? it is expensive but the UK is an expensive country with unfairly moderated prices. it is relative though - people's incomes are in pounds and they earn in relation to the cost of living there not in the US. so there's no point in doing conversions.

The XBox was also £299 at launch. And while ecomomics explains the difference to some degree, at the end of the day we still end up paying well over the odds for just about everything.

First, dont say the "A" word.............

Second, nope, as far as I know UK wages aint even close to the inflation. Did you even went to spain? theres a lot of english people there. They still work in the UK, but they live in spain. Theres even some mad ones that live in australia and work in the UK. And thats only becos of the rising costs in real state.

Even yakumo said that japan is cheaper than the UK.

I though it was cheaper, like £250........

IIRC, it dropped about a month or two after launch since no-one was buying them at £299.

299... not bad really in my view.

I am going to wait and see if the games are going to be region free, which seems to a trend at the moment.

If so, ill get it from the US.

Also, does anyone know if there will be two packages to choose from at launch in the uk? Perhaps the 299gbp pack includes the harddrive, extra pad and whatever else with it, same as the 360usd pack.

Hmm a stake will cost more here but a Pizza is about 8 pounds for a take a way one delivered to the door. not too bad really. The UK is well expensive these days. I got quite a shock when I returned there last year. Prices had shot up while in Japan they have been pretty much the same over the last 6 or so years. Well, apart from petrol and such stuff.

the "A" word? hahaha. I'm Argie too and there's nout wrong with saying Argie, didn't mean it in an offensive way. just that lived most of my life in the UK. I'm not sure what you where trying to say in your response. 300 quid is about the same for a brit as 300 dollars is for an american. give or take. but - even so, England is damn expensive. I grew up in London, and over the past 10 years things have changed for the worse. I can't dream of moving back to my old area - house prices and such have gone up around 400% since 20 years ago. madness.

Well it is offensive: the brits created the term "argie" as a despective form of reference to us during the war.

Its like calling "jap" to a japanese person.

    UK prices are seriously insane...

It's like they just take the US number for stuff and throw a Sterling symbol in front of it with no respect paid to the fact that the currency is worth way more. I mean, sure, cars and stuff seem to be priced about accurately, but a lot of other stuff seems really out of wack.

Not only that, but it has always seemed to me that UK wages are way, way lower than they should be. I used to run payroll for a company that had a UK subsidiary, and when you converted the salaries to their USD equivalent, they were *way* lower than equivalent positions would demand in the States.

And on top of that, taxes are *way* higher! I'm not trying to be the dumbass American here, but I just don't get it. I figured this sort of thing would self-correct after awhile, but it never seems to...
