    The Tort of Passing Off.

IT's when someone with a similar product tries to take advantage of another's established business by ways of using similar logos, shapes, scents etc.

without going into much detail, this is meant to be somewhat ironic , rather than legalistic.

go to www.playstation.com and you will be faced with this!

Ummmmmm.... is this supposed to be a joke? At first I thought the "WTF xbox360" and the black circles were actually on the page prompting me to think some sort of really juicy war was about to break out on the console front. But after looking at it, all I see is the globe with curves.

    and I repeat:

, this is meant to be somewhat ironic , rather than legalistic.

so yes, this is supposed to be a joke, considering that the 360's silhouette is a trademark of Microsoft.

PS: the inclusion of the word "KAMEO" in the topic, prompts to an apparent yet not express similarity of one or more components of the XBOX 360 line of trademarks, belonging to MS.

If I was a betting man, I would say that the current design is a modification from the one that was up before it circa summer 05-fall 06: http://web.archive.org/web/20050627083446/http://www.playstation.com/

When I designed websites, I would often take the existing layout and try to modify it to look a little different. It recaptures the original look and feel while updating the style, but without being a radical departure that most companies wanted to avoid. Thats all they did here. If I really tried to look, I could find a dozen sites that unitentianally use very similar curves to a 360 faceplate (i.e. the "bowtie"). I mean, it's 2 slight curves bent inwards, not a rorshock pattern... not that hard to copy. This reminds me of all those people from when I grew up in the south who would find the image of jesus on a piece of toast or elvis in a split piece of wood.

The irony in it being that it is on the official Sony PlayStation site, again :p anyway, X360 is the first thing that came to my mind and many others that I asked, when the site loaded

Slightly tenuous link there - the general shape is similar to the Xbox 360 when you draw in the circle but so is the body of a sexy female and I wouldn't connect the two if I happened to see her stepping out of a swimming pool!

the WTF XBOX and the circle were added in MS-paint. I have provided the link in order to see the original layout compared to the parody.

The theme I use is iFox Smooth :)
