Yeah this was used at like gamestop and other places for people to test games and this unit would control the amount of time they could play.
Can this be used to play homebrew or similar? sorry for the mega noobish question as i've never heard or seen this before
no.. this is a control kit that works inside a x360 demonstration kiosk that limits time for playing ... controlling the x360 to prevent goint to the menu and so on ....
Didn't these also have a way of localizing the kiosk? For example, wasn't there a configuration that would display, say, gamestop content or walmart content? If someone messed with this unit, wouldn't it be possible to display walmart branded content on a toys r us kiosk?
yes i think so ... check the unit ... the dip switches saying LOCATION Edit: i have the set of instructions now Updated 06/28/06 KEY: 0=DOWN 1=UP Region Retailer Code North America DEFAULT (English) 01000000 North America DEFAULT (Spanish) 01000001 North America No MU 01000010 North America BestBuy 01001000 North America BestBuy spanish 01001001 North America Wal-Mart 01001011 North America Wal-Mart spanish 01001100 North America Gamestop (EB) 01001110 North America Gamestop (EB) spaish 01001111 North America Game Crazy 01011110 North America Circuit City 01010001 North America Circuit City spanish 01010010 North America Target 01010100 North America Target spanish 01010101 North America Toys R Us 01010111 North America Toys R Us spanish 01011000 North America Comp USA 01011010 North America Comp USA spanish 01011011
Can these be used on a retail 360? Like can they be connected to them in any way? Also, what are those discs dated as?
Plan on selling any of those discs? Also, how do these connect to the 360? Does it change the behavior when you boot it?
I recently acquired a bare medusa unit which luckily came with the loopback A/V cable. Mine seems to be a little different from vectrex_rox's but is the same version. It's lacking the back sticker and has a non-resettable fuse. The fuse seems to be factory installed. The box seems to be mostly powered by a PIC16F747-I/PT. There appears to be an internal debugging port at J5 connected to the debugging pins of the PIC. I'm not sure if it's active. There's also a programming port (RJ25 connector) accessible from the cover of the unit. A USB hub chip CY7C65640-LFXC takes care of the USB connectors for I/O, controllers, and the memory card. There's also an ATMEL518 microcontroller near the USB hub connected to it. Perhaps that controls the timer functionality? I traced out the loopback A/V cable which connects the medusa unit to an xbox. It appears to be a straight-through cable. Pin 1 connects to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. Even the outside metal bit of the A/V plugs are connected together. Does anyone know what is needed to power these units in terms of voltage and plug polarity? vectrex_rox, would you mind taking a photo of any stickers that appear on the power brick which came with yours? Each image is linked to a high resolution copy.
