Recently I have discovered a nice player and sound archive which allows you to listen to a sheer unimaginably big amount of Japanese x68000 and other arcade/console FM tunez, using the famous MDX file format. So it's quite easy, and here is what you have to do: Download the following two rar files shown below and unzip it onto your computer (Win PC only). (you need only those two files) http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/arc_file/mdxo_mxdrv_complete.ra_ (music archive) http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/arc_file/mxdrvg.ra_ (player) from http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/ How to make it run: The file extension *.ra_ has to be changed into *.rar before it can be unzipped (unrar'd). You have to start the mxv.exe as this is the visual player. For open a tune, you have to right-click on the GUIs surface and choose the top menu. Then browse to the location where you have stored the unzipped MDX files from the "MDXO_Mxdrv_complete.rar" file. Here's a screen shot of the players GUI: Important note: The players GUI is supporting japanese Language only. Except the case you're using a Japanese OS or you have changed the OS Language settings to Japanese, you have to rename every folder using Japanese characters into romaji (latin letters). e.g. 大魔界村 → Daimakaimura (or any kind of name not including Japanese characters would be fine). Here is one other setting for obtaining a better sound output: -right-click on the GUIs surface -choose the 4th menu from top -out of this, choose the middle menu (mxv...) -a new windows-tab will be opened, choose the right one (MXDRV..) -activate [48KHz] and checkmark the [ROMEO] field. -[OK] That's it! I have quite some fun with this player as it offers you thousands of Japanese game tunez in an amazing quality, which you probably could never hear before. Lissen also to thousands of MD, MSX, FC, SFC etc. tunes in a complete new and clear quality (f.E. check out the Thunder Force BGMs). Also funny is the Keyboard feature, which lets you know of which notes are played in realtime. So that easy teaches you some nice accords for your own keyboard practice etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask me at any time. Have fun!
Do you happen to have a romanji set that you personally converted for those not familiar with Japanese (^_^);
Is there a tracker people use to make their own MDX tunes? Since there's some stuff here that wasn't even FM music to begin with it must have been made with something we can download
You have an error in the player URL. It missing the "_" at the end of link. Is the player support emulators format like VGM, HES or we must converting these files to opening them in this player ? Or it support only x68k ? otherwise, amazing list of video game BGM !
@trenton. I could do that, but it would take me some time. anyway, if you copy the title into a translating machine and also listen to the tunes, you might find out be yourself to what game or maker it belongs. @brams: right you are. I guess some songs are completely re-written as well, since I have found some tone mistakes in few of 'em, compared to the original tune. @wily: it's all described in my post above. thanx
How did you not know about this? MDXDRV has been around for a decade, playing X68, PC-9801 and Megadrive tunes...
Let's not forget the similar player for Japanese FM PC soundtracks: "Hoot". http://snesmusic.org/hoot/v2/
Excuse me master;-) Sure I could have guessed of its existence a long time ago, because there just had to be something like this. But I wasn't into this until recently, when I had the desire to listen to some fancy konami tunes. So my dear, could you possibly tell me then of where to find that starting up tune from the x68k Gradius II? That would be uber awesome
I never knew about this software either but I'm sure gald Tatsujin has pointed it out. Witht he 48hz option and ROMEO on the sound quality is amazing. I just finished playing Thunder Force IV on real hardware so just had to check out the difference. The results are very good. Everything sounds perfect but just so much cleaner!! Yakumo
This is great! Quick question, what's the mxwav.exe file for? Will it convert output into .wav files somehow?
This one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anZExnFc_GU Awesome tune. Its also on Nemesis '90 Kai (X68k) on one of the bonus levels, though that version isn't as good as this. Anyway, why not use Hoot for playing back all the different game soundtracks.
Sorry nope. And also not for the MSX 2 gradius, but for the gradius II gofer no yabou here: http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp/MP3/1992/GRA2/GRA2.mp3
Awesome stuff ! Better than this only listening to the songs from the real thing. :thumbsup: Anyway, plenty of music from ancient eroge, eh ? Lots of stuff I never heard of. :love2:
