XBMC dash update

Hi wondering if any1 can help. I installed UnleasedX and switched dashboards to XBMC, I noticed there is a new XBMC 3.5 how do i update to 3.5 so my xbox boots straight into it? Is it a case of removing E/XBMC and replacing it with my new XMBC folder

It's as easy as replacing the needed files through FTP.

 

So delete E/xmbc and place my new xbmc folder in E thanks
Or is it like a over write of the things inside the new xbmc folder in to my E/xmbc lol soz for confusion

 

I guess you're softmodded right? If you are, I suggest you only do this if you have a way to softmod again.
However, yes, just overwrite the folder.

 

no sorry its hard modded i used HeXen to install unleased and switched dashes to xmbc etc but after googling around i found a new xmbc 3.5 i popped it in Apps to take a look and was wanting to get it to boot straight from xmbc 3.5 , very new to this so thanks

I found the newest XBMC does not work at all for watching movies, so I had to swap back to the version that comes on the hexen disk. It would load the movie and play a split second, then eat up all my memory and freeze up. Does yours do the same? Dont remember which version I had installed, was the newest one I could find a month or so back

 

Funny you mention it I have had problems with freezing, loading skins and Programs disappears, Apps,Games or Emulators folders empty lol gone back to old version from Hexen Disk and it works fine, .... Moral of the day "if its not broke....."
BUT at least i learnt something new from a great site

 

I do like to look and skins from the new one, but it just does not feel very stable

 

The XBOX isn't a good media centre any more anyway. An extremely cheap android tablet will be better, and at least has HDMI.
Best to stick to UnleashX.

 

Maybe so, but its still nice to be able to pop a DVD in it for the kids to watch. With the limited number of inputs on TVs, its a pain to keep swapping out gaming systems and dvd/blueray players

 

I like the older version of xbmc too. I don't play emu's or movies with it; just games. IDK unleashx looks ugly to me... Maybe there are skins I don't know about...

 

I don't even use XBMC necessarily for its Media Center capabilities... I just think it's the best dash overall, and it does everything. But to each their own.

 

What about a PS3? Heard its the best Blu-Ray player on the market and its my primary Blu-Ray player downstairs.

 

I wouldn't waste a console's laser on blu-ray movies. Ever.

 

I still use XBMC4Xbox for my daily TV.

There are a handful of plugins working great for that purpose but I'll be safe and not post specifics.

For anyone having troubles, search the XBMC4Xbox site and post a debug log. But if you are running out of RAM, disable features and change to lighter footprint skins. You can usually get it to display in 720p and run plugins with the right skin, but if not try 480p instead. I recommend Confluence Light Low Mod or Rapier Clarity Mod.

I especially recommend byron's Rapier Clarity Mod, as it allows incorporating custom shortcuts (using Favorites) into the home menu. So, as is the case with UnleashX, you can quickly find your most commonly used functions in few button presses
