    Xbox 1 Devkit software restore

    Hi,

I've recently acquired one of the original xbox 1 dev kits (big silver thing) and delightfully it boots to what looks like the original xbox dash meaning I can actually use it for development atm :p. Any attempt to use the remote recovery fails as I assume its wanting to xdk dash.

Ive extracted the files from the remote recovery exe and am looking for an alternative way of deploying them.

I have full sdks (albeit without cd recovery disk) so does anyone have any creative ways of getting the xdk dash back on there without me opening the unit? Was tempted to compile up xmbc or something and transfer the files via ftp, but think I might run into issues with running compiled apps from a dvd/cd, does anyone know how to set the run from dvd flags in visual studio?

Failing that, any other creative ideas? (no i dont want the recovery disk, against the rules to ask and I can get it anyway if there is no other option)

    Best Regards, yos.

You could TRY using xbhdm and manually putting files on. I can get you a dir list if needed.
The nice paradox I ran into with doing this before is the eeprom dump. As I have seen dev/debugs that DO lock the drive to themselves (2 out of my 3). Although thanks to llama's cable for force dumping the eeprom, that shouldnt be a problem.

The other issue with this solution: Do you wish to open her up or not?

You could also compile a build of xbmc with sdk and boot that use ftp/samba to get files over.

Many ways actually. So feel free to ignore my pm.

A easy way is to patch Avalaunch to debug then gain ftp access.

    Hi Guys,

I'm quite happy to open the unit (something's rattling around on the inside anyway :p ) but feeling a bit lazy atm. Will try patching avalaunch and see how i get on, thanks for the advice guys :)

:evil:Been a long time since I have posted here but finally something I can post to help with.

The easiest thing to do would be to burn a build 5849 recovery disk, recover to that state, and then use the build 5933 remote recovery to recover to 5933. I had to do that a couple of times with new drives on my system. Works great. This will bypass opening of any kind, and being that the 5849 is a .iso, just burning to a dvd-r will work fine.

If the drive is somehow locked and the console will not boot from a recovery disk at all, or if for some reason the dvd drive is bad I do know of a nice trick to get your hd unlocked, but it would require opening, a few parts from the local electronics store, and a bit of free time. Before you try that I would suggest trying to replace the dvd drive and trying the a recovery disk again.

One other thing that may work, and I have not tried this, but you could use an evox boot disk which would give you access to ftp like the avalaunch thing.

One other note if you have what is called a DVT-3, then DO NOT use a newer recvoery method of ANY KIND or you will ruin the box. The older ones actually use slightly different hardware, which means that they are incompatible with the newer software. If are not sure whether or not you have a dvt-4 or dvt-3, can you upload a picture at all?

    Best of luck,
