You think sony or nintendo will follow suit? Having wireless controller sure makes it easier to sell controllers to careless people, but what does that mean for xbox 3rd part hardware makers?

It would be pretty grim to not have a nice logitech or ascii product for xbox 2.

I think it will have something to do with the wireless protocol the pads will use. 3rd party pads will have to use the same frequency/protocol for the XBOX2 to recognise them, and M$ will no doubt patent/licence/copyright/whatever the protocol involved.

I think it sucks making everything wireless. Environmental scientists (like my brother) are seriously dreading this battery-powered future, mainly due to the fact that batteries are probably *the* most environmentally damaging products you'll find in your home! Most of them can't be recycled, either - I take all my batteries to a "recycling" bank, but half of them have to be sent to incinerators in The Netherlands. I fucking hate the things!

And how the hell are you supposed to play anything for any length of time?! How long would they last? If I'm playing a really good game, I'd often play it for at least 8-10 hours a day (if not 14) if I'm not working...

Well a Wavebird last about 25 hours on 2xAA batteries, and a nice LiOn battery could do double in theory.

Im sure there will be a wire that you can plug in even if its an extra you have to buy. . . Or it will be rechargeble pads...

IF there isnt a controler port then how do you just plug controlers in while playing... what about lan games when you have 8 XBOX' in one house...?!

Again to use the wavebird as an example, each pad can be set to a certain frequency, so you can have (I think) 12 controllers in range working without interference.

You would need a way to set the channels on the console, either a hardware switch, or software.

Bad news for me then I won't be going for xbox 2.

I'm abnormal when it comes to wireless stuff - the frequencies give me severe headaches when on most people they're either fine or develop mild headaches after prolonged exposure!!!

Anyhow, Logitech make wireless stuff anyway so it won't be nothing new to them and 3rdf party peripherals are usually crap anyway, so if they don't hop on board it's no real loss.

you are not abnormal because in a period of my life (it started at the 11 september 2001 when the airplanes smacked into the twin towers.)

i began getting big headache every time there were electrictrisity in the air(thunderstorms and other things)

and my sister thought i was mental because of that

but luckily i don´t get headaches anymore when we are going to get a thuderstorm/weather .

So no you are not abnormal.

Yeah but they make their own receivers, so they can use their own protocols/frequencies. When the reveiver is built into the console, you are forced to use their protocols/whatever and if they have copyrighted/patented it, then you can get sued to shit for using it without permission.

Hmm, I think that would be a different thing, WolverineDK - electric fields generated by thunder are quite different to the RF signals generated by a wireless controller. What frequencies do these kind of devices use?

its about damn time. The wavebird is great and the battery life is pretty good. Who cares about the environment? lol...

I just think the breakaway cables are the worst. I have to duct tape mine together because they kept getting broken apart from dumbasses tripping on mine. So now they slide apart easier than normal.

bring on the wireless era. I already have 4 consoles set up and the wires everywhere are insane. I prefer sleekness, which is why I have the xbox on the bottom of my console pyramid.

nothing to do with the fact it is the physically largest and therefore would have to go on the bottom of the stack in order to be stable?

It would not surprise me if MS has a deal with Logitech to do the controllers.

This is how i think itll be:
console has 4x wireless frequencies, 1/player. Each controller selects player 1-4, and cannot select same as another player. Now heres the smart part - The console also has 4 small leads poking out of the front, each extendable using a seat-belt style system, but with a latch so you can stop the reverse force pulling back into the system. These act as battery chargers, giving you the best of both worlds

oh, and (c) 2005 the_steadster...hehe, you never know...

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but in reality it sounds too fiddly and complicated to manufacture (in consoles, moving parts = not good; see the NES's Front-Loader of Doom as an example), and will probably be easy to break (the cord rewind dealys on hoovers nearly *always* break eventually). If I was making a console, I would avoid mechanical parts LIKE THE PLAGUE were possible, limiting them the the DVD drive, hard disk (if there is one), fans and other places where it's unavoidable.

plus isnt MS trying to bring down production costs of their console? Even using the old pop top systems like the PS, DC, and even the PSTwo reduce cost and chance for failure.
