J Allard recently hinted that the price of the Xbox 360 in the US would be in the "about $300" neighborhood. The original Xbox launched in the US at $299.99, so that would be the ideal price point. http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/05/31/xbox360/index.php
"The UK release date and retail price have not been confirmed and are subject to change. If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price." - play.com
Didn't the original Xbox lauch at that price and then a couple weeks later were forced to drop it because of extremely poor sales. They'd be an idiot to launch it at that price point again.
Maybe overseas, but definitely not in the US. The price stayed at $299 for over a year. And that seems to be the "New" price point for US consoles as the original Sony Playstation retailed for $299 back in the mid-nineties as did the PS2 and Xbox.
But that's without taxes... Prices in Europe are VAT included. 300 dollar is about 250 euro, add taxes to that (what have you, 9 or 14%? It's 21% VAT here), do some currency mumbo jumbo and you've got a price over 200 euro's more expensive than the NA price. PS2 launched here at 500 euro's, Xbox launched here at 500 euro's... I really doub they will launch at a lower pricepoint, although Microsoft said 500 euro was too much for Xbox... The European price is going to be 350 euro's minimum, 500 euro's maximum IMO. I even remember Ebay prices between 550 and 600 euro's for a new PS2 (the 'ol Sony shortage trick)... Games were 65 - 68 euro's, but are now between 55 and 60 euro's. (still a lot more expensive than the USA... Cheap bastards ;p)
The x-box 360 is much more hyped than the original xbox was, so it'll sell better. I'd expect £299.99 for the model with no harddrive and no games, one pad, as a launch price. Ps2 started at that in england. More realistically it'll probably be £249.99 w/out hdd, £299.99 w/hdd, but they know we'll pay more, and they'll only have lmiited stock. If they had 15,000 units for £999.99 each, someone'd buy them.
They have stated that all versions will include a hard disk so those prices probably aren't wholly accurate
Geez... that's like $600 USD. Fuck that! That's like half my rent! Damn, are consoles always this expensive in the UK?
Everything is expensive in the UK, it's like the prices aren't in the least bit adjusted for the currency being worth so much more. Even worse because living expenses are so much higher there w/the outrageous taxes and gas prices. But, on the other hand, they also get Skyline GT-R's as gray market imports, so I think we'll call it even, lol. If the Xbox 360 isn't $299.99, w/HDD, no game, 1 pad, and cables at launch in the US, I will be ASTOUNDED.
