the av port on my 360 is fucked up so i thought i might as well remove it and put a vga port on it.

well i got the vga port all soldered up and it just 4 rlod's on me even with a vga cable plugged in. any i dea why its not finding my vga port, and no its not my soldering, i checked the port before i took off the av port and it worked fine. do i need to ground certain points or something like that?

Probably need to complete a circuit to enable it.

i grounded pin 20 and also rewired it following the pinout assembler gave me just to be safe, and it boots up now like a cable was connected but still not getting a picture. am i missing some points that need to be grounded?

Could also be a bad sync line connection. I'd tie everything on the VGA side that is listed as ground to ground to be safe. Probably isn't the source of your problem but it couldn't hurt.

If at least 1 of the RGB lines is connected you'd get a picture assuming everything else is fine.

connected them and and still no picture, i noticed a resistor near the av port contacts was missing, could that be the problem? i imagine it would just red ring though if that were the case...for the grounds i just soldered them all to the metal sheilding over the ethernet port

Look, I had an XENON console with that problem and it was the GPU which had cracked solders on the video output bus (connection GPU > ANA/HANA) and it's not a broken A/V port.

Reflowing the GPU made it work again, but since it's flaky I'm not confident it's going to last long so I just bought an XBOX360s.

    It is not a PS3.

It has 4 red rings. Not 3.

If the port was broken form the beginning, you should have repaired it BEFORE touching it. Look at other mainboard images on the Internet (make sure it is the same as yours though) and see if anything is missing. There shouldn't be though.

It could be anything, but I reckon a pin or trace has lifted.

Xbox has video setting issues too and needs resetting if your display does not support the mode

    Oh, sorry!

    I did not know that.

Is this a new feature as part of the new dashboard / 'BIOS'?

Nope, been in the system since the first generation of Xbox 360, as far as I remember. About as long as the trick to clear the system cache that involves mashing your hands on the controller.
