This just dawned on me the other night. With the 360 and its accessories all going with a white plastic color scheme, I'm worried about the potential yellowing issue that seems to plague white plastics over time. Some Dreamcasts and white Saturns have been prone to this issue, and the SNES was one of the worst offenders. Any thoughts if we'll be seeing something similar a few years down the road with 360 gear?
sure hope not... dirty yellow does not fit in with all my stuff... but at least we can buy a new faceplate when the old one starts to decay!
Just spray it black Does anyone know if they're going to release an all-black console like the debug units? Pretty much everything I own is black, so having a blinding white console in the middle is probably going to piss me off sooner or later! Stone
Sooner or later there will be a black 360. I'm waiting for a special edition specifically for that reason. I love white, but for some reason I don't like it on this console.
Why dont you just get a black faceplate? I might get a faceplate, if it looks cool enough. BTW, did anyone know that there will be a plastic "Wood" themed faceplate? LMAO!!! It looks as ugly as shit. Oh, and its got the dumbest name in the universe, too. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=335819&pfp=BROWSE
Yep, just saw it in person last night and it does actually look kind of cool. Almost like real wood, sort of has that vintage Atari 2600 feel to it.
I'm pretty sure this is coated plastic, because its shiny, so that wax protects it from the elements. I'm pretty sure MS is using a higher quality plastic than what Nintendo used for the bottom part of the SNES.
I believe the old wood paneled station wagons were called woodys, that's likely where the name for the wood faceplate comes from.
Don't forget the original PSX had yellowing problems too. I never had that problem, but I've seen tons of them with it.
i had the chance back in late augest to get an up close look at a 360 used by MS for those road tours thingys...apart from the case being beaten to crap...it didnt look white anymore....but it wasnt yellow....though after being on the road for months and being handeled hundreds of times.....
Because unless you have a perfectly sized space to put the 360 in, you will still see the rest of the white console. Now it will look like a white cars which has a black hood (at least in my opinion). I'm holding out for a faceplate that isn't rounded, but rather has square corners and fits in better with other home theatre electronics.
Seriously though, what is everyone's problem with making a console that actually fits with other a/v gear? Especially now that most of them are front-loading designs.
All the console manufacturers want a console that stands out. They think that means that the consoles have to look different from all the consumer electronics as well. With all the talk about ubiquitous computing and media convergence, you'd think that they would want the console to blend in.
dont think of it that way.... many years from now that antique petina will add soo much value to the worth of your console.
