    This may have been asked before, but I was unable to find it. Is there any way of playing Xbox 360 demos that were not released in the States of a US machine? I ask because there was a demo people were talking about on this forum a while back, I think it was Ninety-Nine Nights, that was supposed to be good but that was only released on the Japanese Xbox Marketplace. The demos available on the US marketplace right now are pretty pitiful.

    On a related note, is it possible to run recordable DVD's with game data on them on an Xbox 360 without some sort of modification? I was led to think that might be.

    There is a way of creating multiple live silver accounts by setting up different hotmail accounts for each reigon. Someone wrote a post on it here a few weeks ago.

    Yes.

    :confused:

    What kind of game data? I though the only kind was the original demo disc given to stores.

    You can run anything that is signed to run on burned DVD media. Beyond that, it depends on what your definition of "unmodified" is.

    I have a 360 sitting on my desk that plays any burned game i put in it, it's unmodified straight from the factory.

    Now that sounds like a console many people would love to get their hands on.

    Yeah... I sure hope microsoft doesn't change that with some update, ala PSP.

    One thing to note if you're playing with piracy on the 360... all of the power controls are handled through software. Nothing like a live update that detects modified firmware and procedes to melt your processor into slag.

    if(checksumRC4(DVD.Firmware) != RetailValue)
    {
    XboxLiveSocket->Send("Xbox360 with serial number of " + My.XboxSerialNumber() + " has been hacked. Please cancel the waranty")

    while(true)
    CPU.Voltage ++;
    }

    And when you turn the console on, all you see is:

    "The user has attempted to modify this console. Please contact 1-800-My-Xbox for service"

    A machine that destroys deliberately destroys itself? What an advanced society we live in.

    Now now, don't get their hopes up. ;)

    Sure that console can play games burned onto DVD-R media, but even that has to be signed properly. Not like you can run a retail dump or even a retail original in that console of yours.

    By the way, could you link me to that post? I can't seem to find it.

    hl718; wouldn't it be possible to create a program that would allow any 360 dump to run on an Xbox 360?

    I have a white Debug with a white faceplate, and a white retail with a black faceplate... it really throws people off when they try to use the wrong one.

    This is at work, btw... i still haven't bought a 360 for myself yet...

    So I take it as MS is just waiting for the modified firmware to get wide spread then they will force a live updade.So if someone had the modified firmware,then was forced to a live update,then when the system is turned back on it would really say.
    The user has attempted to modify this console.

    I really doubt Microsoft would do any of those things, even the serial number report you're talking about. Look at the PSP; Sony could have easily done something like that with their updates but the most agressive those ever became was when they forced people to update in order to play newer games. Companies tend to imitate each other in things like this, at least in the short-term, so I predict Microsoft will probably do something similar to what Sony did.

    Microsoft banned people with mod chips from playing on xbox live. So if your console has been modified you would no longer be able to use it on xbox live. This is just a small step further (if its true).

    completely disabling the console itself just because it has been tampered with is illegal. If you read the eticket underneath it clearly says that it has to receive any interferance from the user, even if it harms the console itself. The worst they can do is to ban you from Live.

    EDIT: When you buy it, it becomes yours.it's your property and you can do whatever the hell you want with it and M$ has no right to object or cause ti to stop functioning, since that would be like imposing an unjustified strain on the personal liberty of the consumer towards his own belongings.

    Hehe, this is why xboxes aren't sold, they're liscensed. It's a one time liscense fee. Whether or not that would hold up in court is anyone's guess, but that's how microsoft's legal team is playing it.

    And i'm not saying that microsoft is going to fry modded 360's, i'm just saying they could.

    That would be kinda cool to see.Like they should make your console go up in a hale of green smoke.Ahh the smell of burning electronics.

    If MS ever pulls something like that (and it won't, it'll ban your box from Live, but that's about it) it would have to do it in style. Watch the box reboot, and have Master Chief show up proclaiming "THIS BOX HAS BEEN INFESTED BY THE FLOOD! CORTANA, NUKE IT!" "You got it Chief!" just before smoke starts pouring out the back. ;)
