Dunno I get the feeling that just when things were getting interesting (really good games coming out, prices finally in line with previous generations, etc...) the consoles are already between 5 and 4 years old, and the technical differences with PCs are more noticeable. Traditionally, by this point we should be hearing about the nextgen...
I bought my Xbox 360 at launch and it worked great for over 2 years until it RROD. My refurbed unit had a lifespan of 9 months before it RROD. My use of the console was pretty casual, on average around 5-6 hours a week. My biggest beef with the console was the amount of heat generated which no doubt had an effect with the components. I can be sympathetic to some degree because from computing experience faster and more powerful systems generally start out hot (remember the days of AMD Athlons, jebus!) It probably didn't help that Microsoft rushed the development of the 360 so it could beat Sony to market in the nextgen wars. Perhaps shortcuts were taken. Regardless, even having experienced RROD twice I'm still happy with my experience. Microsoft did a great job handling the faults and had the guts to admit mistakes and make amends.
Sorry for the wall o text.. but when i originally saw that article on the net i copyed the whole thing to a word file.. and (in my rush) forgot to get the actual link.. :banghead:
xbox have inherent problems even the most new drive jaspers have e74 errors but on the other hand they are cheap and moddable so u can get a replacement quick and a 3 year warranty is quite long
First by a software manufacturer? Hardly. Nintendo and Sega were both software manufacturers that decided to make their own hardware. Don't forget, Microsoft also has a long history of hardware (webTV, peripherals, Zune, XBox 1 etc etc..) Ultimately the issue was that MS rushed the XBox360 to market. It is now fixed, thanks to die shrinkage and some HS changes.
my 360 just died :/. still,in the time it takes me to drive and get a new one my ps3 will have loaded one level of game when i get home! i would like to discuss the issue of repairs though. the internet is full of hearsay and anecdotal evidence so i don't know how to go about fixing mine.
