Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I purchased a used Xbox 360 (Japanese HDMI model w/ BenQ drive) on ebay for cheap with a disk drive that would not open. I have read through all the info regarding gear replacement, pulley replacement and the like, and that does not seem to be the problem. The piece towards the front of the drive that is threaded that runs against the gears seems to be off alignment (this is the part that slides back and forth perpendicular to the direction the tray moves - it dictates the height of the laser assembly, raising and lowering it as it moves side to side). Its as if it has jumped a few teeth, or the black frame that slots into it has popped into the wrong slots. The tray will not open or close more than 3/4" because this assembly is causing the laser assembly to raise too high too quickly. This causes the tray to rub and get caught on the entire assembly since it is raised too high. At the moment, the tray is out all the way and will not close without getting caught. Are there any tutorials on re-aligning this mechanism or a method to do so? I'm reluctant to get a replacement drive (unless its *real* cheap...and thats only if I can get my computer to recognize this drive in the first place in order to get the drive key). Thanks a lot.
Nevermind I have a fix. I'd rather not go through the trouble of fixing/flashing firmwares so I just took the lid off the top of the unit and took the tray out of the drive - I'll just stick the disk in the drive from the top and then replace the top cover/magnet...Like doing PS2 disk swapping. The unit works perfect - I only bought it for Japanese exclusive shooting action (Raiden Fighters, Cave ports).
