    Hi guys,

I am asking this question, because I know that thermal compound have a certain lifetime and looking at the manufacturing date of my Xbox 360 in July 2008, I am quite worried? I bought this xbox back in the days, I took extremely good care of and I am the sole owner of this console, I never had any problem with it. I make regular use of it, so I wanted to futureproofed it and for the moment, I don't have enough money to look for the newer revision.

I have some spare Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound left, which can't be worst than the microsoft one? Is it an overkill to do so?

    Thanks in advance

Wow you guys are little bit extreme no? Most thermal compound we get off the shelf lasts a pretty good time. You're only suppose to replace it when it drys. I generally get 2-4 years from arctic silver 5 before it starts losing its performance. Unless you guys are running these machines full power 24/7 I don't see how it could dry in 6months time.

I have done the replacement and I feel that my xbox is running way smoother. Though the opening of the xbox even with the famous toolkit wasn't pleasant at all. I have noticed that the stock thermal paste wasn't as crappy as I thought, but it was awfully applied.

lol to be fair, if that was the original thermal paste, he's probably right. The stuff is probably super dry by now. I also found it was generally glopped on poorly.

I've never been able to tell the difference on a X360 (bc mine always RROD before I even got a chance to replace it), but on the PS3, you can def tell when the paste has dried on it. The fan kicks into a high level WAY early with a couple minutes of boot up, and blows room temp air out (instead of warm air like it's suppose too).
