Piracy can create a large install base , the PlayStation proved that. Everyone I knew got a PS1 because it could easily be pirated, and because they couldn't afford N64 carts
thats the number one eason it was very popular in latin america, why pay 1000pesos if you can pay 50pesos for a psx game?
Morality? Does this patch allow someone to run homebrew on the system? An XBox360 linux machine would be very nice indeed!
From what I understand, no. So far all you can run is 1:1 copies of existing 360 games. That's because the xbox executable is encrypted and nobody's figured out a way around it, or an alternative method of executing code.
This could however eventually extend to homebrew by letting you burn a modified disc with some sort of exploit triggered by holes in the code. Ofcourse then again, they already have the Kiosk disc that doesn't require a firmware hack to boot and other than the executable you can apparently change things which could lead to an exploit pehaps.
