Hello once again, you'll all be sick of me soon. I need some verification. When outputting the Xbox 360 through HDMI or VGA, do you get a choice of output resolutions in the settings? I ask because we're getting my Dad the same TV as me. Through component we can only select 1080p/720p etc. The TV's res is 1440 x 900, so we would like to be able to select this specific resolution. Which cable allows us to chose this certain setting, I am guessing just VGA. Another member showed me a list of resolutions, so I know that our res is there, but I don't know whether we need VGA, HDMI or either. Thanks for any clarification!
i think you can use both. you have a wide choice of resolutions with the last update even some 16:10 ones
The TV is nice enough to allow us to set it to 16:9 with borders so thats not as much of an issue. I just wanted to make sure before I purchase. I read that this TV is sharper over VGA so probably best to plump for that.
i foind this really strange. hdmi should be sharper. in any case try googling for the new resolutions supported by the update for being safe
The Xbox 360 does offer a stupid range of resolutions, although for HDMI 900 pixels is an odd range so 720 or 1080 pixels won't really fit. :S
HDMI gives you the standard 480p/720p/1080p etc options, not res's. I have 1280x768 or whatever and it looks better then VGA with a lot nicer colors. VGA gives you 1440x900 but it crops your picturea bit on the top and bottom.
Fantastic, cheers. How much crop is there, is it significant? Id rather run it at the TVs native res. I think the HDMI being less sharp is purely characteristic of this TV, it is a sub £200 model so I don't expect the world.
It's not massive, but it's sort of noticable. Two thing black bars on top and bottom. When it's on HDMI isn't it stretching 720p to 1440x900? If so that might be why it's not sharp.
Oh, so it just adds borders, so you don't lose any picture? Or it adds borders *over* the image? I haven't used it through HDMI so can't say. You can set the TV to 16:9. I played it through 720p and 1080p on the same TV, both looked lush and sharp. Don't know if there would be any scaling lag which is my main worry. My basis for the HDMI not looking as sharp is an Amazon review, heh, but it's not a big issue at all.
