Today i bought a 3 way power HDMI switch, like this one...

As i have 2 hdmi cables i use on my xbox 360 (1 for capturing and 1 for normal play), anyway the device appeared not to work no lights on the device and no picture on my LCD, so i unplug the device and plugged my hdmi cable coming from my Sony STR_DH800 AV amp back into the Xbox 360 but i still wasn't getting a picture on the LCD, then the feeling of dreed starting to come over me as i guessed that the 3 port hdmi switch might have blown something.

I think i have covered all bases,

Xbox & HDMI cable works when plugged directly into the LCD - So not the cable or Xbox 360.
My PS3 Console works on the amp - so not the amp itself
My PS3 Console works on the HDMI input that the 360 was using - so not the HDMI socket on the amp

I have tried 3 different hdmi cables but still no picture, im not even getting the HDMI icon appear on the amp when i select the xbox 360 input on the amp so its not even detecting a HDMI signal...BUT i have notice that if keep unplugging and plugging in the HDMI cable on the rear of amp the HDMI icon does eventually appear but i still dont get and sound or picture.

EDIT: Have have now tried my brothers Xbox console on the Sony Amp using the same HDMI cable an HDMI input and his Xbox 360 get a display fine, so it must be my xbox, but i cant understand why the xbox works fine when i plug it straight into my LCD TV using the exact same HDMI but wont work when i plug it into the amp. Any ideas what could cause such an issue as because HDMI is digital i thought it either works or it doesn't there's no middle ground!?

I'm curious myself how reliable this type of switch is. I've got a similar one I think isn't perfect. If I recall experienced things like no sound on xbox 360 without resetting the HDMI connection in some way.

How do you mean resetting HDMI connection, on the xbox 360? I just cant figure it out if it works on the TV's HDMI connection then is should work on the amps HDMI connection. My PS3 works on the same HDMI connection that my 360 was plugged into on the amp so its defo not the amp at fault.

Maybe something to do with the HDCP or handshake of the HDMI connection, but im not sure how that can break without breaking the whole HDMI socket on the 360 as i said it either works or it doesnt being digital and all. It all points to a setting option (software) on the 360 but i have tried 480p, 720p and 1080p without any luck and to be fair i never changed an hdmi res settings before it spotted working so it cant be that

I have that exact switcher and it works perfectly. My TV only has 2 HDMI - so Sat box is in HDMI 1 and media PC and xbox into HDMI 2 via that switcher box. The automatic switching is great - turn xbox on and it switches to xbox. Turn it off and its back on media pc

Well I'm guessing it must have been faulty as none of the LEDs came on when I turned the Xbox on, but that's the least oft problems I just want to know why the 360 now appears not to work through the amp but it does through the tv

Ive heard of a HDMI port going tits up and stop working completely before but for it to work on a tv but not when plug through an amp even though other devices on said amp work ok fine is a new one to me. What could be in a HDMI socket that could have blown to get this sort of problem is it HDCP related at all but then wouldn't this cause it not to work when plugged into my tv?

Any suggestion on a fforum that deals with HDMI tech problems ?

Could it of burnt out the HDMI port or something?

Well that's what I initially thought, but then I plugged it straight into the tv and I get a display, so it couldn't of burnt out the HDMI socket otherwise surely it wouldn't work when plugged straight into my tv. I'm don't know what would even cause such an issue as this, maybe something to do with the digital 'handshake' that's made between the amp and my Xbox, but then if this was so it wouldn't work on my tv but it does. The 360 is defo detecting the HDMI cable as the ring of light on the front of the Xbox lights up and detects the pad, usually if there is no video cable connected to the 360 then texting of light doesn't light up at all.

Can a HDMI socket be damaged in that why though, i though if something breaks/gets damaged the whole socket wouldn't work anymore?

The plot thickens on this one, yesterday I took my 360 and HDMI cable around my mates to try it on his Yamaha amp and it totally worked fine, got a display straight away!. So now I'm really confused as I was sure it was some minor fault on the 360 but this would suggest its now my amp...or is it both. Is it possible some very minor fault occurred on both HDMI ports (360 & amp) that now when they are paired together they can no longer work together but use them with any other device and they will be fine. Is this even possible!?, as at the moment it's the only plausible theory I can come up with!?
