Hi, My HDTV has a res of 1440 x 900. Does the new Xbox NXE (or whatever) add support for more resolutions, including mine? Cheers
Holy balls, this is the bonafide bees knees. Much kudos to Microsoft for doing this. It's too bad the console is hard-capped to 1920x1080, so everyone with 1920x1200 monitors don't get exact resolution... but I figure it's all for stability. I'm a resolution nut.:nod::nod:
1980x1200? Man, that's a bit crazy! Really though the amount of resolution choices is great now, but you can't really expect them to support over 1080p...
1440x900 on my PC moniter kicks ass now. My friends use it for LANS, I have a good little HDTV with HDMI now.
Im still in a dilemma with regards to my next console. Can someone verify, with a screenshot, that the 360 will output 1440 x 900 over VGA? I think that might solve my dilemme over which console to get.
Well i dont use a monitor i use my TV so it connects into that however ive used pc speakers before and its fine like that as well. Its got standard left/right connectors along with a adaptor to fit pc speaker sockets.
i worry about lag - any discrepency in time between audio and video. Through vga at native res, there should be little to none video processing, thus lag wont be an issue really, will it..?
seriously, you're splitting hairs here. I m a very picky person but come on, I get audio-out from the VGA cable's audio RCAs and video from the DB15 and it works fine. Really. If you're that worried though, you can always hook up a Tos-link to the back of the video cable's base and get that digital signal to an appropriate amp.
Yeah I know I'm being a bit over the top. HDTVs frustrate the shit out of me- I wish I could just be ignorant and not know ^^ Plus its a lot of money to not be happy with. I looked at buying a new TV with audio outputs but theres not really much suitable (size, money constraints) I'll order one soon. At Amazon, £180 for an elite with extra pad, Pure, Lego Batman, Wet and Borderlands.
I should mention that the one time I tried to use the 1440x900 resolution on my TV (whose native resolution is 1440x900), there were black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I'm not sure why this was the case. 1280x1024 worked fine, however.
1440x900 resolution is in 16:10 ratio. The Xbox 360 supports 4:3 an 16:9 ratio output by default, as Microsoft intended it mainly for use on TV displays, which primarily use those two ratios. However, Microsoft knows that people itch to use the Xbox 360 on other non-TV monitors, and so you see support for 5:4, 4:3, 16:10, 16:9 resolution displays. 16:10 (and presumably 5:4?) are letterboxed in a way, but the end result in any case is that your ACTUAL IMAGE IS PRESENTED WITHOUT STRETCHING.
