If you think you can simply paint your matte black 360 slim white, think again. The case panels turned out baby blue, which is actually kind of cool, but the trim pieces and the faceplate came out pink....

Does it still look like that with the system (and the blue fan) off?

What kind of paint? Perhaps more coats were in order.

I'd personally dye the plastic then paint over it. Reduces the chances of any manufacture problems with the plastic.

HEX1GON already did it for his Xbox mod so, it is possible.

Yes, The side panels are like a baby maybe light powder blue color always. I installed a blue LED fan, so I like the side panels. Hell, the light pink front and trim look aright too, but I don't like the way it matches with the blue.

I wonder what that "dye" actually does to the plastic, chemically. I'm sure the plastics themselves aren't perfectly -BLACK- (similar to how the original XBOX is actually "green", but even less of a margin). I guess the differences in manufacturing (maybe they had to use a slightly different mix on the front, molded panel, than on the flat sides?) came through when the dye acted with the plastics, assumedly bonding with it (as opposed to paint which would just layer over it, ignoring "plastic" paints that are made to bond to the material).

That is, assuming the sides are plastic. They're plastic, right? Never held one of those in person. I assume they're not painted metal, hence your use of dye over paint.

I've been painting a console white recently myself, (I'll unveil it when I'm done), and I appear to have a similar problem. I'm using a spray paint made for plastic. The lid came out a slightly different color than the main shell, but this could just be a difference in number of coats applied (I think I spent more time on the lid, therefore it is a little closer to "perfect white" than the rest). I'm going to add another coat or two to the rest and hopefully it will all even out. Otherwise it is going to look similarly funky forever.

Pink and Black Xbox with a blue led?

Man, I'd be all over that shit. I guess all big losses come with some small gains.

    I, for one, like it.

No, I didn't prime it because i used Vinyl Dye and not regular spray paint. I basically used an entire can of spray vinyl dye. Layer after layer, but the colors still bled through. It's growing on me and I think I like it now. It's like a pastel colored xbox 360.

Dupli-color is not actually Vinyl Dye its just a coating VHT actually makes a Vinyl Dye but it is difficult to find I usually order it from Amazon

I have used White VHT on many solid black Joysticks and stuff that gets regular molesting and it holds up great

Vinyl dye has a sort of acetone in it so it actually seeps in to the plastic a millimeter or two

Duplicolor do sell a line of Vinyl Dye. In the states, O'reilly autopart store carries them. I bought a few cans there before. They also sell VHT version but it's on special order (you order in person and pickup the following day). It cost a little bit more, but honestly there's no apparent difference. I know because I've tried them both.

Actually that is dye, not a coating even though they call it that way on their website. I've used it on many occasion. It has the solvent that essentially melt the plastic on the surface and allow the pigment to fuse with the plastic. The "coating type" should be this http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=370
