I've always admired the Launch Team special 360s, and decided I needed to make mine look similar without spending a dime (I already had the paint sitting around from another application long ago). I realize the color isn't exactly the same as the official Launch Team boxes, but I neither mind nor intended for it to look identical. Just a simple paint job. Took off the ends and dismantled the hard drive and applied a bright green paint. Mind the permanent marker stains on the XBOX 360 logo... I can't seem to get them off with ANYTHING that won't hurt the plastic... Anyone have a solution? (Got this machine used from a buddy) I could easily replace the panel with a clean one but this machine is still sealed and I would like to keep it that way as long as I can. Thanks for looking!
Looks pretty neat to me! All I know about XBOXes though is that the grills are meant to be grey. And also not to loose the grills. Which I managed to do once. Found them three years later in a cupboard at a friends house. How does that even happen? What type of paint did you use on this one?
Yes indeed. Very little sanding had to be done in order to get a pretty glossy finish on the final coat, due to the already smooth original finish. If I ever have to open the thing (perhaps it will last forever and I never will?) I may consider a different case (I've always liked the look of the Elite... though I'm partial to white already...) and I still have a pair of unpainted end caps that I could throw on there if it ends up looking wonky in the future. For now, I am quite enjoying it.
that a very good pain I use it also for my consoles customs. The apple red from that brand is a beautiful color. Soon I'll post my NES with the famicom colors. and I use that paint.
For the permanent marker, I've heard acetone (nailpolish remover) can get rid of it. I've also been able to remove it using magic eraser, just don't go overboard.
Acetone will definitely get rid of it but will attack the plastic enough (even with a quick wipe) to ruin the original texture/finish. I need to try a magic eraser... but I have the feeling it is going to just remove material as well. I'll pick one up tonight on my way home.
Bought a Magic Eraser but as I expected, it is abrasive enough to alter the texture of the plastic. Also, didn't remove the ink. I think I'll just give up for now. I think I've literally tried everything non-destructive so far; all the solvents that are able to normally dissolve permanent marker just won't do the trick. I think it's deep in the microscopic pores of the plastic. At least it's a lot less bold than it used to be, so it's not a complete eyesore.
