Check out the answer I got from microsoft. "Let the power supply cool for several hours. The power supply may have overheated. The power supply should again work after it cools. Adequate cooling may take several hours. Make sure that the power supply has sufficient ventilation during the cooling period. Do not try to turn on the console during the cooling period." So my crap ass psu gets hot and the xbox locks up, just shut it off and dont play for several hours. What a great solution.
Slap a Vantec Tornado Fan and copper heatsinks on that thing, that ought to give it adequate ventilation.
Thats what I would do as well. Cut out holes in its sides and top and mount computer cooling fans to it so that they will draw out the heat. I would also power the fans with a old hard switched power supply from a computer. It might be more work than its worth to try and wire them into the supply itself.
Report the problem and forward the response to your state Attorney General's office. I'm serious. They should have something like a "Consumer Protection" board that handles complaints like this. Everyone that has an overheating problem needs to do this since MS refuse to acknowledge that the product is faulty. The AG's can force them to acknowledge and fix it if enough people report the same problems.
Don't be so shocked ASSEMbler, thats what they have told everyone with that problem. Hence why you see water cooling and case mods being sold and done. They don't even have a handle on getting more units for those waiting, more or less take time to recall a hazzard
"Hi, my car stops working after a few hours of driving around" "Oh thats quite normal, just turn the car off when it starts to do that and leave it off for 8-12 hours before driving again" You wouldnt take that from a car company, so why should MS be any different?
hey simple question. Any chance your using the damn thing not on the carpet? Sure it sucks it over heats but a good way to keep it from happening is keeping the bulk park of it on a flat surface that is not carpet. I mean hell I don't yell at dell for my laptop over heating if I leave it flat on a bed or carpet (thats just asking for it to over heat and break).
I should call microsoft support just to have some fun... Ace: I'm having trouble with my 360. Opperator: What seems to be the problem? A: I called you earlier when my console was overheating, and you said just to let it cool off for a few hours. O: Ok, so what seems to be the trouble? A: Well, some of the people on this web forum i go to said that i should use watercooling. So i put the power adapter in a bucket. O: A bucket... you mean like with water? A: Yeah.... then all of the lights went out in the neighborhood. I'm calling you from my cell. O: Let the power supply cool for several hours. The power supply may have overheated. The power supply should again work after it cools. Adequate cooling may take several hours. Make sure that the power supply has sufficient ventilation during the cooling period. Do not try to turn on the console during the cooling period. A: I'll try that...
O: We're sorry, but a bucket of water is not a licensed Xbox 360 accessory. Your current Xbox 360's warranty is now void. Please call us back when you have purchased a new unit.
Or better yet, claim that i heard about watercooling on microsoft's official support site, xbox-scene.
ASSEMbler, hang the thing in mid air off the back of your entertainment center. Its worked for a lot of people with this problem.
