Hi there, A few months ago, i've tried to internalize the power supply of the xb360 slim, but comes hard to do it. Why this project? Well as a long PlayStation user/modder i love the fact don't have to carry an external power brick (leave PS2 slim out of question, because i use only a FAT one for internal HDD). I like to only carry a usb cable, gamepad and a power+video cables. What are the goal's? Remove completely the DVD drive because don't really used anytime, all my games are on internal HDD. Replace console power connector with a standard 230v power cord connector. Place the external power supply without any plastic case inside the Xbox 360 slim. So far what i've tried? - A fast inspection of sizes between console and disassembled psu: Rapidly i think it's fits right inside, but i'm wrong. The PSU it's almost the same size of RF shield of the xbox. - https://imgur.com/ZsBc1GU - After disassembly console and comparing internal sizes: - https://imgur.com/s2uSCsW On left an image of disassembled xb360 slim psu / power supply (not mine power supply), on the right marked at red is what i have in mind for a good place to put the power supply. Visually it can be fitted, but after leave th epower supply inside and connect to the power grip i've started to hear a buzz sound from inside. The buzz comes from the coils of the console. At that point i started to giveup on the project, for 2 mains reasons: the main flash chip is very close to where i want the psu to be and the buzz noise it may be a warning sign that it's not good to proceed with this idea. A last hope There is always space to improve the ideas and time will tell. A few days later, i remember seeing a xbox360 devkit with a diferent top cover (a cover with a USB port for dev pruposes). - https://imgur.com/ssEEii2 Well that top cover is a good place to put the power supply, because it's more outside of console and only have to cut some rf side shielding to have space. But here comes the hard part, where to get that gadged or the top plastic cover? If someone have a 3D printer and make a cover similar to this. On the other hand, on ebay we see many cooling solutions for xbox360 and one of them caught my attention because is relatively cheap, it's a ver common product and have the correct space for the power supply. - https://imgur.com/7N005s5 I want to hear you! Well i'm trying to find a way to do this. If you have knowledge or have tried something like, say something, give some ideas.
I do not think that the power supply of the xbox is designed to being fitted inside the console: you will end with a lot more heat and interferences caused by the ac current. Maybe you can fit a power supply from a ps3: the slim modem should be small enough to fit in the place of dvd drive (maybe even inside the dvd drive chassis, so you can have an extra layer of insulation) and it is designed to be put inside the console.
Already have the power supply running inside of the console. After run a few tests it worked, now is time to perfect things. Can follow the project in my twitter https://twitter.com/saraiva_net
