    Hi All,

I searched the forums and Google but couldn't find anything to indicate if it was possible to upgrade the stock hard drive on an Xbox 360 Slim, and if so what the max size allowed? and are SSD's supported?

The Shells are apparently sold on Amazon for really cheap http://www.amazon.com/XBOX-Slim-Drive-Enclosure-Shell/dp/B00BWJRNZI/ and the description mentions up to 500gb harddrives, but is that the limit or just what the "Official" Xbox 360 limit is?

I don't have a modded Xbox and I'd like to keep it that way, will I be banned from Xbox Live for using a larger harddisk? I've just got a ton of Xbox Live Games with Gold and I've ran out of space on my 320gb drive.

You can easily upgrade the drive without modding. As fate6 said, the security sector keeps it from going higher than 500GB. Microsoft did release a 500GB HDD. No idea if it's just for the new E model or if it will work in the S models. If it does fit in the S model, simply take out your old one and put in the new one. You will need the HDD transfer cable to transfer your stuff and licenses over. Make sure it is an official Microsoft drive as third party ones do not allow original Xbox games to work.

While he could just buy an official HDD it will be far more expensive for no real reason, Just follow the guide and you'll be fine OP.
And yes original Xbox games do indeed work once you have fixed up the partition for it which is also covered in the guide.

If you mod the console, either JTag or RGH, you can get up to 2TB internal.

And there is also another mod for the 4GB consoles where you can replace the internal 4GB of memory with a 1TB thumb drive.
So if you have a 4GB console, and you mod it, you could get up to 3TB of storage in the console on 2 seperate drive.

All of my modded 360's have 2TB Sata drives in them.
For $100, you really can't afford not to.

I will say however, that if you mod the console, you can also stream games over your home network from a PC.
This eliminates the need to have a large hdd in the console itself, and allows you to install a much larger Sata hard drive into your PC.
It goes without saying however, that the console is no longer portable with that kind of setup.... IE... you only have access to 5TB of games lets say, when you are hooked to your home network. Take the console to a friends, and you got squat. :(

I've never used SSD, but it has the standard SATA interface, so for all intensive purposes it should work just fine.
There have been several articles on folks using them successfully, but at the end of the day, the speed increase is really never realized, so most opt for larger storage over faster storage in modded consoles.

He said he doesn't want to mod it.

Follow the guide posted above, works on unmodded consoles and does it much cheaper than official drives.
