Recently I've had strong feelings of wanting to quit my research over Xbox, Devs, and Halo overall, and was very close to until a good friend of mine(being as awesome as he is) offered me a broken devkit.

The mobo seems to have a burn mark he said, and that would be the cause of problem. EDIT: Actually the previous owner said the burnmark did not affect it, and it was infact a CPU problem.

So I was wondering, what all would need to be transplanted from the dev into a retail console for it to function as a dev?

What i've noted so far is:
    -The CPU/NAND
-The DVD Drive(as the NAND is tied to it).

Would it work with just that or would more need to be done?

EDIT: Nevermind, I know now, and find it's not worth it.

I say it is worth it...

The only thing you need is to transplant the nand and the CPU between the same model of board. I heard from a local friend that does RROD repairs by reballing GPU's that they did experiments with switching the GPU's from other boards and they weren't always sucsesful.

If its too expensive I wouldn't try it as it may not be worth your money

I don't know..It would be a huge undertaking to do this without the tools required, if I were you, you could ask around on xboxhacker and see if anyone has had any success there.

For an experienced hot air reworker, this would be easy stuff.
    I would just ask around.

I don't see how it's not worth it you can buy a 'broken' box off ebay for cheap. Typically a reballing will guarantee you a fixed box, so not only will you be fixing it you'll turn it over to dev mode as well. The DVD also is not tied to a dev box you can use any (or none at all).

Just do a quick google search for reballing services in your area, it shouldn't cost very much at all. Hell try these guys out http://www.360-pros.com they specialize just in 360's.

I ran my xedk without a drive for two weeks after my first drive died during a bad flash. When I got my new drive it worked by simply plugging it in.

For anyone thats interested I was told this is what is needed to be transplanted and is why I said I'd rather not:

CPU, NAND, DVD, SMC Chip, South Bridget.

If anyone knows anyone that could do this, tell me here, otherwise I'll just have to go to plan 2.

Its way to much work to even get it working if it could be done.

If the retail 360 ever gets fully cracked then I could see a easy way of converting a retail to dev.

Yeah its not worth it to me.

The previous owner said the burnmark wasn't the source of the problem as the dev would receive power, but it's CPU would overload and cause it to either freeze or turn off. I heard the xclamp method or reballing could fix this, but I'd rather not open it, maybe others will know what they're doing better.

Well the xclamp method is more of a temporary fix.
    Reballing is the best solution.

CPU and Flash. Nothing more. Still I would consider this as "enough to be not useful", other than in the name of science.

So if I got a cheap zephyr and transplanted my xenons CPU and flash I could have HDMI? Would it still work with a sidecar (using the 213w PS)? This might be a dumb question but where is the 'flash' and what does it look like?

    1. It won't work with the sidecar, unless you add the missing connectors to the board, other that that, the sidecar should power up, and work.

    2. The flash is a chip on the motherboard, rectangular in shape, and if i remember correctly, it's beside of the GPU near the metal cage, and close to the front of the board.

Don't count on it... I have the means to do the test at local game shop, but its simply TOO risky and besides they charge like 60 bucks for any service

Nand is small black chip around where the dvd drive is, its not the big silver one thats by the ethernet port.

If I had a spare dead devkit I might as well give it a try

If the cpu is shot, it's not gonna work.

Sell it for parts, no point in wasting another 360 trying.
