Here's my problem, Yesterday i bought the official vga cable from microsoft because my tv only has one component connection which is now being used by my Wii. After hooking up the 360 through the vga cable i noticed that detailing and such is fine yet the colours look like they have a grey/white wash over them, they look so bland and lacking in the vibrance they have on the component cable. I've checked my tv manual and there are no settings to be adjusted on the tv for the vga connection appart from centering the screen and switching between 4:3 and 16:9. In the 360 itself the output is set to 720p, 1366x9xx resolution and 60hz. Am i missing anything here, does the vga cable indeed rape the colours, is there something i need to setup on my samsung lcd hd tv ? Because this just isn;t very playable this way
No. I have a VGA cable and it works as fine as a component cable on the same monitor (i tried my component->VGA adaptor and VGA cable and the results are comperable). It's your TV's issue. Try hooking up your 360 to a PC monitor for a quick comparison for yourself. Image quality settings such as : "normal", dynamic, auto, etc should be the ones to fix your issue.
To get optimal picture via VGA, try different resolutions. On my Monitor "720p" resolution doesn't offer as good of a picture as a similar one with more vertical lines. 1280x1024 I think is what I use. Opposed to 1280x720. It should help.
