SO... I have my X360 connected to my Samsung 32NL Widescreen LCD with a component cable. NOT COMPOSITE - I MADE A STUPID MISTAKE. COMPONENT, NOT COMPOSITE!

    COMPOSITE: RED, GREEN, BLUE
    - Not COMPONENT - RCA

    I currently get 1080i or 720p.

If I invested in a VGA Cable, would it look better, or would it be the same?

Is it worth investing in the VGA Cable? Does it improve the visual aspect of my 360? What is the image difference? Does it look sharper or jaggier? is the colour better? please tell me all you know.

I've googled and stuff, but I'm not finding any conclusive answer. You guys are the elite, so I trust you more.

    What say you?

Holy shit will it make it look better. ;)

Composite on your console is limited to 480i.

The VGA cable enables all of the various WXVGA, XVGA, SVGA and VGA resolutions supported by the Xbox 360 upto and including 1920x1080 (1080p). It also upscales any DVD playback when using the VGA cable.

To get the best picture you'll want to set the VGA cable output to match the native panel resolution of your LCD.

Yup, I made a horrible slip and wrote composite instead of component. I'm using COMPONENT (Red-green-blue), not composite. But thanks for the answer.

Is VGA better than composite still?

(I'm SO fucking stoned, sorry for the mistake, and thanks for answering.)

VGA will give you the following advantages over component:

    1) Native panel resolution support. If the 360 is outputting at the native resolution of your panel, the LCD doesn't have to do any scaling.

    2) Support for 1080p via VGA input if your LCD doesn't support it via Component.

    3) DVD upscaling. IIRC, the Xbox 360 will only output 480p via Component with DVDs. This *may* have been updated in a newer firmware, but I wouldn't know for certain. It's been awhile since I've used a Component cable on my 360.

alright. Then I'll go get one. I have 20 dollars to spare and a lot of free time. And since I'm brutally depressed and the fucking meds are kicking my ass, I will either kill myself, or play Ace Combat in scary good resolution. Thanks, brother.

my advice would be to look for an HDMI->DVI adaptor. You'll get all the VGa-related benefits PLUS the ability to upscale copyrighted DVD content.

I use my VGA cable to play on my Arcade monitor (some games look/play better in 480p), and HDMI for my flat screen. My TV (Aquos) doesn't support much of anything useful through the VGA input.... means I need DVI->HDMI converter to use my Mac on it properly.

i went from Component to VGA and other than some dulling of the picture (whcih was fixed with a later firmware update) i thought the VGA picture looked a good deal better (via projector and plasma)

An old xbox 360 with no hdmi port that hasn't received the RROD? Amazing.

My xbox arcade with no hdmi port red ringed long ago, replaced it with a falcon chip model with hdmi, well worth it.

I've got a non-HDMI sitting in my entertainment center that gets *heavy* use. No RRoD problems whatsoever. Still runs just as strong as the day I took it out of the box.

yeah, the wife's launch JPN machine gets used for FF11 as well as her other gaming - it's seen thousands of hours bazaar/mmorpg action and it's never had a single issue.

Two of my machines have been back ... twice. Not had a problem with the HDMI machine though (and yeah, hdmi pic looks very very good!)

I use VGA since it lets me select my TVs native resolution (1366 X 768).

I tried HDMI and the picture looked slighly streetched and the color werent as bright.

My 360 did get the RRod, but it was sent back after being fixed.

MY TV is nothing to be proud of - its maximum resolution is 1366 * 768.

I don't know if this is better than the 720p or 1080i that the component cables give me. Also, the colour would be an issue, right?

I guess I'll get a cheap VGA cable next paycheck and let you guys know what I think.
