I don't know if anybody knows about this but Microsoft has a techsupport set up for regular XBOX users to help other XBOX users solve their problems with XBOX related problems with Microsoft points being the Compensation.

I've been with it for a month or so now and to put it lightly, I have talked some of THE DUMBEST fucks on the face of the planet. In most cases i'm amazed these people even manager to input wifi keys because they don't even know what their wireless adapter is on their old 360s is. No really I have to talk half these people around their XBOXs just to get them to wiggle an antenna (feel free) Most of these issues are online related but the other day I got a really good one of a guy who had his console banned and he wanted to bitch about it after telling him the trick my father taught me (write to somebody as high up in the company as possible.) He told me "I just had alot of inapproprate names" OH YA THINK THEY WOULDN'T BAN YOU FOR THAT...

UGH another reason to consider jumping ship to the Playstation side of the force.

So This thread is going to be me posting the dumbest things people ask on XBOX Ambassadors if you're part of the program feel free to share too.

Here's a chat log from last night with a guy that doesn't understand how updates work

Deleted as it's not the best example of stupidity

    Something about updates

Did you ever think that maybe his Xbox locked up and that he didn't know where to look for help? Sure, you get idiots, but you also get people who need legitimate help and for you to taunt them (because I'm sure that you do, even if you don't state it in your posts) is disgusting. If you can't take your volunteer role seriously, then don't do it. Oh, and unless these conversations take place on a public forum, you are probably violating some privacy terms of your Ambassador agreement, which Microsoft should be made aware of.

Yeah I gotta agree with mairsil, If you can't solve peoples problems 9/10 times and presumably you call 9 out of 10 people retards then why do you bother? Surely you wanted to join this program to help people with their problems no matter how small, so that's what you gotta do, because like you said you're not tech support so how do you expect proper problems if you can't physically fix them?

Maybe it's one of those cases where, the Retarded people make the perfectly legit questions sound retarded or something. I'm pretty cordial to these people.

Lets see it was a frozen xbox, unless the personal is a complete Moron don't you think they'd know what a frozen screen is? Some of these people are so vague I'm totally lost and get frustrated. Again I never take it out on these people. I do get compensated in small ways

I checked the agreement just now and everything is kosher the questions are made public and everything is anonymous.

I'm exaggerating a little bit right now I'm talking to a guy with an error code that isn't in Microsoft's database. I can't say that person is retarded. He at least knew to look on the database before he asked for help. Most of these people are cool But I do get alot of people whom I wonder how do you even know how to turn the console on. MAYBE the convo quoted here was more me being frustated at vagueness. But it's not always like that.

Not in the least. I'm a usability expert and have taught on the subject. One of the first things I teach is that everyone is different, has a different level of knowledge and has a different level of expectation from a system. It might be obvious to you, but you simply cannot assume that it is obvious to someone else. Even "frozen" is ambiguous. Is it sitting at a screen waiting for some form of unexpected input, it is an unusually long loading screen or is the system completely unresponsive to controls? Each of those poses a "frozen" system, depending on perspective.

This is standard customer support stuff. Your going to get non technical people who happen to own a technical device like the 360 and just don't know what to do when the thing stops working. Just remember that you were once a noob as well and only because you took the time to learn did you become more knowledgeable but most people don't want to do that and just press the On button to play Call of Duty.

I looked into this program but I'm a little turned-off by the weakness of the perks. Then again, I have a lot of free time these days so it could be something interesting to do.

Well that explains your criticism I did keep it in mind with my last round of helper and tried to keep every scenero in mind, It did actually result in the people I was helping being more sastified.

Though most of my chats are still ending with "Call support" and me giving them the number. Almost ALWAYS they never know the number.

For the most part I get people who know what they are talking about. The ones that don't though frustrate me to no end. This is why I never looked into doing real computer tech support I just don't have the patience.

I'll never understand why people think they can use technology without ever having a clue about any aspect of how it works on any level.

I don't expect people to know how to rebuild an engine to be able to drive a car or read electrical schematics to play BioShock but it sure would be nice if they could tell their ass from an ethernet cable.

Yeah but it's a software/hardware developers job to not only produce the technology but also to make it completely accessible to the masses, so you have you count on people being retarded. If they didn't focus on that we'd still be on command lines and terminals, which to be fair some people would say is a good thing but by having Macs and PCs the technology market was opened to everyone which is why the technology market is worth so much and why people didn't give up on video games after the crash in '83.

Alot of people seem to be having update failures. Not much I can do to help them there. Last night I had an interesting one from a guy from Kuwait He had a few XBOXes that weren't dispaying in HD through HDMI on his Monitor. (Which was I assume also HD) to my knowledge there is no tech support there so I didn't know what to tell him. MY guess was that it was a problem with his TV.

One of the more interesting issues I've come across.

well technically I don't work for Microsoft I'm in the clear there. These are on a public forum. besides if Microsoft was going to get pissed at me for anything, it'd be the fact that I've been using my Bing Amazon gift codes to buy N64 games :p

I just had the most EPIC chat with a guy whose hard drive died Not only did I help him realize he had a dead hard drive, but also how it died. His 360 was pugged into a wall
socket that was hooked up to a light switch, his dad frequently turned it on and off and that shorted the hard drive out.

I told him to kick his dad in the nuts :)

He thanked me and told me I did a better job helping him than support did.

I agree his setup was less than ideal, but somehow I doubt that is what killed his drive. It's too far down in the chain, surely something else would have been affected before the drive...

    I could be wrong.

He needed to prove to his parents that was the case, so I looked it up it is possible that the surge from the power going back on could have fried his Hard Drive I found a few credible links that helped explain it. It may have damaged his XBOX too I know power on and off have caused Red Rings for me before.

My 360 is plugged right into my wall and has been since I've had it I too wonder if I should have it plugged into my power strip.
