    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and came here hoping I could get a bit of help on a question I have around development of apps for the Xbox. The developer site at create.msdn.com seems to be down for maintenance so I figured I'd see if anyone here could help.

I work for a company that is considering developing an App for Xbox. Do you know where I can find out what features / functionality are supported within the apps? Most of the apps I've seen are focused on content / media streaming (video, music, etc.). The app idea we have also has video content in it but we also want to give users the ability to play mini-games within the app using their Kinect or controller.

The "Avatar Kinect" app allows users to communicate with each other using Kinect and voice so it seems like the app framework would allow for interactivity other than just pure media related functionality (play video / song, pause, stop, forward, etc.).

Is there a developer doc or functional spec anyone could point me to that describes what the app framework supports?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Michael

Xbox development for the most part is a closed environment. Only Microsoft and their partners have access to the SDK (Software Development Kit). They have a NDA signed with all of their partners so my best advice for you is to contact them directly. You can find out more information by visiting this: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/xbox360/tools

Ok, thanks iHc Aamonkey. I've reached out to the Xbox Tools & Middleware Development Program team. Fingers crossed a real, live human reads my email and can let me know where / how to get an answer to my question.

Just out of curiosity, are there independent developers that work on commercial projects on a contract / freelance basis? If yes, what's the best way to find one?

Typically from my experience they will not deal with small businesses. You need to be big and most likely have published a game before. Yes there are independent developers. If you PM me I can get you in contact with some great programmers that have had years of xbox programming under their belt. Thanks!
