So with the original Xbox, what sata to pata adapters work?

Is it all to do with the controller on the adapter, do any have drive select jumper (master/slave/single)?

Do ata passwords on sata disks work for softmod consoles?

    thanks :D

I would also recommend the StarTech adapter AlucardRD linked to. I've had good experiences with those.
I've also used these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370359160846 - these ones are ok but lead to longer boot times in many cases. They still work, it just takes longer to boot up the console with these.

Jumpers: I've never messed with them. They'll probably be set to master by default. Each adapter may have a different way of doing it so see manual (or guess).

ATA passwords: yes. In all the adapters I've used, ATA passwords can be read/written through an adapter just fine. Works fine with softmods.

P.s. use an 80-wire IDE cable (as opposed to 40-wire). Avoid super long IDE cables. IDE cables can be up to 36" but I've had issues with cables longer than ~26"

Lemme just quote myself here, from over in the other thread about the same thing.
Iirc this one has a M/S jumper - that I didn't have to touch to make it work; I think it was on master. Can't help you with the password issue, but afaik that'd be a disk thing anyways, nothing to do with the adapter.

There's pics in the amazon link a few posts back by alucard. Just noticed this one is a little different than the one I always use. The one I use has a 4 pin molex power connector on it, but that one is very similar, it just has the power connecting to it a little differently.
