"Picked it up at Gamestop"? I've heard of the Launch Bill Gates signed boxes showing up at gamestop before, but never a debug. Here's my thinking:

If the person was smart enough to hack it to play retail, they never would have traded it in. So chances are, it doesn't play retail. So gamestop couldn't have tested it. Plus they would have had to miss the "DEBUG KIT" stamped on the front and when they would have checked to see if the seal was broken on the bottom, they would have had to miss the sticker covering the hole that microsoft pokes in these things. In other words, they would have failed to notice the system was opened. I suppose it's possible and they just took it thinking it was a halo LE, but that's one hell of a set of coincidences. I'd wait for pics before offering any cash.

Bought it at gamestop... that's a new one...

EDIT: Then again, my buddy is a District Manager at gamestop. From time to time, he'll ask me to try to trade in stupid stuff at one of his stores. I once got a guy to accept a trade in on a TEST PS2... Even though it clearly said TEST on the side. I've also had people accept "silver" pressed betas before. They wouldn't take my orange xbox memory card though, even though it's official... so go figure.

You know, if I happened to work at a Gamestop and some Joe walked in and wanted to trade in a TEST PS2 you bet your ass I'd be completing that deal as fast as I could, getting him out the door and then buying it with my employee discount.

I don't think a retail guy accepting a trade-in on a debug console counts as stupid.

Selling a debug console to the public, now THAT's stupid. ;)

I took a 64DD into CEX once to see what theyd say about it (theyre super-duper ultimate geeks) and I said something like 'My friend left this and some disks when he moved away and I can't get it to work, whats it for?' and dear god, he tried his very best to get me to sell it. He said it was worth about £15 with the discs since the N64 isn't on sale anymore, and it's really not a very good accessory. Think how many poor old ladies get conned when they clean out their sons rooms when they move out
