So I got my debug unit in today, but there is a problem. Video will only output in black and white. I checked, and it IS an NTSC Xbox, my TV is also NTSC. The XDK setting are USA Region and NTSC-J (the only other options are NTSC-M and PAL-I). Video is set to widescreen. Just for sits and giggles I tried all options in all combinations, but everything just ends up as black and white. I thought it might have been the 3rd party cable it came with (which had S-VIDEO, RCA style, and Component). No matter which input I used it was black and white. Except for the 'RCA' style yellow. That resulted in no picture at all! I then tried an official Xbox component cable, and still black and white! I then confirmed on a 2nd TV with the same results. So, in summary: S-VIDEO: Black and White Component: Black and White RCA Yellow connector: No picture Any idea's?? Am I just buggered and stuck in the 1950's??
Tried using the Enigmah Video Mode changer and EvolutionX but kept getting the error: "an error occured while loading an xbox executable". both were burned to dvd-r, any idea's?
just an idea, try PAL-I and NTSC-M it may work i remember i had the same problem the first time i imported a Ps2, even if i had an RGB cable. i think, just like the the ps2, there must be a setting (RBG/ YUV in the ps2) that cause the problem.
Iv'e tried those, and still black and white. I'm nearly positive it's stuck in PAL mode and when I switch iit's doing nothing. If I have it set to PAL and 50Hz the picture is black and white and rolling. If I set it to 60Hz the rolling stops and the picture is black and white. If I try setting it to NTSC-J or NTSC-M the image briefly flickers, then returns...and is still black and white. As I said, this is thru component and S-VIDEO. Through the old yellow video connector I get no output at all. This is on 2 TV's with identical results. So it really seems to me the system is stuck in PAL, or has symptoms exacly matching being stuck in PAL. If I could figure out why the XDK won't launch my homebrew XBE's I can try changing the video setting via EvolutionX or the Enigmah Video Mode Changer....probably due to the .xbe's not being signed as debug? Was hoping I wouldnt have to dig my windows PC out of the closet, so I an nn into the boxx and stop wasting discs, but looks like I have no choice, as I think I need to run a different (retail) BIOS to run these xbe's and change the video mode outside of the XDK, since it won't change out of PAL regardless of the option chosen.
now it's dead Well that was fun. Was flashing the BIOS and we had 3 second blackout right as it was finishing. Now all it does is emit 2 beeps, while flashing the green circle for about 2 seconds twice, with about 2 seconds of no light in the middle, then settles on flashing green and red. Sounds toasted. Why does god hate me? Would not load the recovery disc (drive doesnt even spin up) and remote recovery gives nada. so.... anyone want to buy a broken debug?
You can recover your debug kit with a 29 wire modchip. More info here. http://www.xraychips.com/catalog/images/ChipPics/Xray3.htm http://www.xraychips.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/108 Or you can throw in a modchip, flash a real debug bios on the chip, install it and it should work.
Flashing a retail BIOS (of any sort) to a debug WILL kill it. Sounds like that's exactly what you did and why it is now FRAGing. -hl718
I hope your not serious? You 'had' a rare black Debug Kit... Please tell me you didn't flash it with a Retail.bin?
If you want help fixing this, lmk BTW, the fact that it has 128 meg of ram makes me think that this system is one of the rental units from E3. So don't worry too much about 'breaking a rare xbox', it was probably just a case swap from a normal debug.
