Hey guys, figured that my samsung DVD is dead. Then it hit upon me, what if i could replaced it with a another IDE Hard disk drive. Thus I will like to ask if this idea is possible? *I am running on a v1.4 XBOX (Focus chip) and Modded with Evox running XBMC currently.
Thanks mate, Btw anyone knows where can i get a replacement DVD drive then? My current is a samsung sdg-605b. Currently located in singapore, not sure if any vendor will be kind to shipped to me..
If you've got a modchip, you can use basically any PC IDE DVD ROM drive. Just that your original DVDs won't work. I can't see that being a problem since you want 2 HDDs
Go for the Samsung Sd 616T. With a modded firmware available it will play all known media AND original Xbox disks. It is even full speed 52X for CD and 16X (I think) for DVD. I even modified my drive's casing to fit in place of original drive and look factory from outside.
Thanks mate.... Hunting for this drive and flashing the drive is abit of chase here~ *update* I just went and bought a 2nd hand v1.6 xbox (warranty seal intact) for $40 bucks and did a manual transfer to my hard-modded v1.4 xbox~
Especially since I just picked up a 1.1 for $7 with warranty seals intact. Admittedly it looks like a Thompson drive is inside but that large (and flashable) TSOP is sweet. And the whole being able to solder in more RAM doesn't hurt.
^ This - I always favored the 1.1 models. Mine is currently fitted with 128mb RAM and 1ghz processor. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Does the 1 GHz proc play nice with games? I heard models with the 1.4 GHz proc don't play to well with some games...
It plays nice with just about any- there are a few exceptions to this. Xbox-Scene has a patcher in their archives for the 1ghz/1.4ghz units to patch .xbes to games that either ran too choppy or too sped-up. Kotor was one of them, and after patching, there is literally no slow-down in frame-rate. It's a beast of an upgrade when you have everything set up properly, for XBOX games and emulators alike. I just set up PSX the other day and my XBOX dominated quite a large amount of key games.
Xtender doesn't allow dual HDD activity at the same time... only switch option. Where did you get that info from...
Ah, my bad: I read it as a reply to Ape's response... shoot. Tbh, he was asking to replace the DVD drive with a HDD, that's why I didn't consider yours as a direct response to the OP.
It can be done with Linux I think. Saw a how to where a dude made a simple NAS with 2 HDD from a 1.2 Xbox. Think he used a modified Linux kernel to run it.
