I have never noticed any like that. Is China where all those with the switches came from? Maybe it is a knockoff or third party?

    It's a fake.

The receivers are all made in Indonesia with one of the two part numbers. So it wouldn't make sense if the part number is different but made in different countries. There was revisions of the playback kit (reason for different part numbers) but they never came with a region switch.

I'm confused, what's the point of a region switch on the receiver?

This Xbox DVD Movie playback kit for the original Xbox gaming system is a quick way to expand the functionality of your Xbox. It requires this kit to enable DVD movie playback. Simply plug in the infrared receiver to a controller port and use the remote control designed for DVD movie playback. Dual regional receiver allows you use in region 1 (US/Canada) or region 2 (Europe, Japan, etc). Requires 2 AAA batteries (not included).

I thought region lock was encoded in the system, not through the IR receiver? Unless IR receivers also have different regions based on territories.
