I have an Xbox DVT4 Development Kit that isn't starting up. It will get past the green ooze stuff and then freezes on the Xbox logo with a sound that doesn't stop. Any ideas or tutorials on how to fix this?

sound like when I removed the HDD, is the HDD connected and data not corrupted ?
Try reading the hdd on a pc with the tools to make one.
Not an axpert on DVT3 or 4 but this way i was able to make a working copy (xbox hd maker or something from xbins)

I downloaded some network tools the other day, do you know if there is anyway to use them to read the drive or will I have to actually hook the drive up to the computer? This hasn't been opened yet and I would prefer to keep it sealed.

Yes sounds like the hard drive is gone or try a can of air to blow the dust out if you dont want to break the seal of the kit.

Sorry to revive this thread but I just picked up a Devkit and it was suffering from this exact same issue.

Just like the OP said. The kit would start play through the flubber animation and then stop with a repeating sound. I would press the eject button and the screen would flash black but nothing would happen. I opened the kit up and tried removing the daughter boards just to rule them out as a problem. Eventually I swapped out the DVD Drive with one from a broken xbox and it then booted just fine. I didn't think the DVD drive could prevent an xbox from booting but it is what worked for me.

Yeah, the xbox actually needs a DVD drive to boot, it's one of the first inputs checked.

A lot of people don't think about that, but it can also be the DVD-ROM power cable, which holds the information to transfer the tray status.

I've repaired a few Xboxes with this happening, and sometimes they'll sit at the Xbox logo and not error.

Unfortunately I'm still having some issues that seem to be to do with the DVD Emulation board. I'll probably start a new thread to focus on that.
