Yes, it would seem some clever chap has worked out how to transfer your precious Xbox game saves over to your super duper new X360. Article on Xbox-Scene. I never said it was easy.... Have fun EDIT: Just a though but Bert and Ernie are essentially Linux and an installer disguised as two save files. So if you can get Fifa saves on the X360........ Let the fun begin :typin:
Bert and Ernie utilized a flaw in certain games that caused a buffer overflow when the gamesave was loaded and then patching memory to let specially signed code to run. Problem is that the hypervisor is supposed to block all buffer overflows rendering gamesave exploits useless. This is assuming the hypervisor monitors everything going on in the emulator. I'm still curious in seing what loading a hacked Splinter Cell save will do though (since it is the only publically exploited Xbox game that works in the emulator).
I got my mate who's a Linux genius to explain a buffer overflow to me last time I did an Xbox for him. Pretty nifty bit of hackery to find memory leaks and all that crazyness. Yeah, I wouldn't expect the Splinter Cell hack to work at all on a 360. Although it'd be pretty funny if Linux did pop up! But if someone managed to get hacked save games working on the original Xbox, it's only a matter of time before someone discovers a flaw somewhere. I mean, it's M$, there's always a flaw in the system somewhere.
Why didn't microsoft made Xbox saves work normally on Xbox360? I mean, they claim it's retrocompatible with Xbox games (the games that don't work yet, might have patches avaiable in the future), but can't load Xbox saves? WTF...
Well if your saves are on the Hard disk, some games don't let you transfer to a memory card - and once you have them on a memory card its a non standard socket anyway - so it wouldn't be simple for average joe gamer
Network transfer. MS could have easily made an Xbox boot disk that would allow it to transfer saves to a 360 on the same network.
The method this guy is using seems like overkill (14GB game save? Damn.) Plus there's a danger of totally destroying your 360 hard drive.
In some ways, I think part of the reason not to allow existing save files to work on the 360 was to discourage gamers from focusing too much on the whole BC feature. Having to start fresh in all your games may or may not be too appealing to most gamers, so they're more apt to just focus on the 360-specific software. Then again, BC means nothing to me so that's just me.
