So a buddy of mine has a soft modded xbox he had done elswhere and a chipped (alladin 1) xbox he doesn't like the set-up for. I thought we'd be able to just take the soft modded hard drive and put it in the chipped one without problem, but we keep getting error 6. any ideas? I get the softmods being locked to the board but again..the one we are trying to use is chipped.

The soft modded drive is locked, as they have to be locked for a softmod. If you unlock it can't easily be relocked for the Xbox it came from but it will fix your problem. You can use aid to unlock it.

Use Config Magic to backup EEPROM and unlock hard drive on softmodded system.

BACK UP EEPROM OFF THE XBOX BEFORE REMOVING HARD DRIVE (to PC or USB, etc).

and that's what I was thinking and worried about. Thought the chip would bypass the lock...darn.

There's no way to read or unlock the hard drive unless you have the proper hard drive key (extracted from the original EEPROM for example).

So I backed up the eeprom to my computer, unlocked the drive. Placed it in the chipped xbox and got an error 3. Not a huge deal since the xbox it came out of was dying, i'll just set-up his current chipped xbox as good as possible. Since he likd the set-up of the soft modded one so good, I was just trying to save time placing all the apps, games and emulators on his and sinply swap drives. Thanks for your help all.
