I have an Xbox Debug & DVT-4. Until recently I have been using Win2K and a flashed GD-5000 hitachi & a small app called Xboxiso. As I have a few things that now need to be used on WinXP I thought I'd upgrade.

So, despite everything working (what ain't broke don't fix comes to mind) I pressed on last night and got a genuine copy of WinXP, set up an old PC with it and started firing all the bits and pieces I need onto it. It took me ages to update and finally I got around to the DVD.

I followed all the available installation instructions, re did things the way they previously were on the Win2K machine fully expecting the same positive result.

You can see the way this is heading.
    It didn't work.

I tried installed Xboxiso, tried to run it and got an external error (there was a code but I didn't write it down). I thought, ok I must have missed one of the steps and I went over it again and again. Still nothing. If I ignore the error the drop down menu fails to populate with the LG & Hitachi CD / DVD drives available. This wasn't an issue in the Win2K machine.

So, I have everything else running, I can see the 2 Xbox units in Xbox Neighborhood, explore the files and now I can no longer do anything with the Hitachi GD-5000. Is this a WinXP issue? Is this a me issue?

This weekend has been a disaster. Head cold, son is ill, my 360 died and now this. I actually have a thumping head ache from trying to do this several times over.

The rest of the stuff worked out without a single issue. Anyone know what the problem is? I thought this worked under WinXP? The really annoying thing is that I actually embarked on this because I thought it would be straight forward and need to explain to another AG user how to set it up...oh bravo me! ffs!

Nobodies fault but my own, but as everyone else is the world is using XP I thought it would be easier if I had done it to explain the process. Now I feel a complete left nipple.

may be a long shot, but try installing the latest .net framework as i think xboxiso needs it (or the older visualbasic) to run correctly

i could be completlywrong, but its worth a try!

When I upgraded Win2K in order to use my Xbox emulation card, I lost the ability to use the Hitachi. I put it down to some security setting and just rolled it all right back as I didn't need it for anything else at the time. It literally was a Win2k box with an Hitachi drive, Xbox Neighborhood & Xboxiso on it. It was bollocks for anything else but it worked.

Another AG user mentioned that they used their GD-5000 on XP a while back and I thought it was about time I did something about the maltreated PC sitting in the corner. Let it actually become more useful.

Long story short, the Win2K never had ANYTHING fancy on it.

PeekB: The installation SHOULD have sorted out the ASPI layers as I had two related files to install and rebooted. The only thing I can think of is that for some reason the Hitachi has either become faulty or the firmware corrupted. I've got a spare and I can go through all that side again, once my head ache subsides. It's literally pounding as it's thundery here tonight.

I shall try your advice. Anyone here on XP that has had any similar issues?

well i use my debug on winxp all the time using the xdk and network neighborhood, but have not had much experince with the raptor card for dvd emulation unfortunatly

if the worst comes to the worst and you cant use xboxiso on xp, would it be easiy for you to setup a duel boot machine and install win2k on a seperate partition?

ill do a bit more research into xboxiso and see if i can help find a solution for you

Cheers! I've used my Debug on my XP laptop for ages, but this is a means of getting access to other material via the Hitachi.

unfortunatly i dont have my debug unit with me as have loaned it out until next weekend, so sorry i cany bemore help at the moment!

Diddydonn, sorry I updated the ASPI layer thanks to the link sent by PeekB. That seemed to correct the original error, but another one pops up relating to something else...

I downloaded a newer version of Xiso and had to battle through all the bizarre sites that are more interested in selling you porn than talking consoles. Eventually found a genuine copy that didn't require me signing up to receive porn. Downloaded it, installed it and.... fresh errors!

    Oh the joys!

This time it's looking for official *.exe files from Microsoft that when I started seeking them out were clearly harder to obtain. If you thought you had to wade through unwanted porn attention with Xiso, you'd be shocked to see what the torrent sites were suggesting in order to download 1 file.

"What we need is for you to join one of the three following sites in order to download your file....

    1) Illegally underage kiddy porn
    2) Donkey Abuse
    3) Angle grind your nuts and staple them to a plank for fun site"

Seriously, I am not into any of that kind of stuff and decided against it.

Not only am I against the types of download, but I also uphold copyright so I might give up this particular avenue. All I wanted to do was stick a genuine debug on the unit. :-(
