Everytime i put a disc into my xbox it ejects it after a couple seconds. The same happens when i close the drive with no disc in it, it will eject in a couple seconds. Even when i shut my xbox off it wont bring the drive back in it'll stay ejected. I opened the xbox up and its a samsung drive. Does anyone know what may be wrong with it? Thanks

Open the drive up, and grease up the sides of the tray, rails and re-align the tray. Then remove the band and reseat it, problem will then be solved.

before taking it apart get a can of compressed air and spray inside the drive ;) also check the lil rubber band that should be just inside at the front of the drive when open.

failing that open it up and clean it and lube er up

    1. Open the drive up (Take apart the xbox and remove the disk drive. Then remove the screws that hole the drive together. You can use google for a tutorial on how to take it apart)
    2. grease up the sides of the tray (Just put grease on the side of the tray so that is can slide more easily in case this is what is causing your problem.)
    3. grease Rails (If you eject the tray before you disassemble the xbox then you will cleary find metal rails that the tray slides on and you just need to put grease on them)
    4. re-align tray (Make sure the tray is moving back and forth in a straight line and not pulling slightly to either side)
    5. Remove the rubber band from inside of the drive and then put it back in exactly where you found it

If all the drive manipulation is not doing any good. I would check for traces corrosion. It's a common problem to weird behavior that could affect the Eject mechanism.

Check this website for more info: http://fillwithcoolblogname.blogspot.ca/2011/02/1st-gen-xbox-trace-corrosion-repair.html

I had a few Xboxes that needed repair on some traces. Mostly 1.0/1.1 but later revisions as well. Check the link to Llamma's forums as it contains info from someone who did repair the issue. The forum is currently down for maintenance but that should not be the case for too long.

Any weird power or eject behavior is usually a trace problem.

Not all the time, all eject issues I have repaired is just the band.

I would check for broken traces before disassembling the DVD drive. It's quicker and easy to diagnose.

Hell, it could be a mixture of both. It's all part of the debugging process :)

i'd open it up and check the supercap hasn't leaked n caused some nasty corrosion, and maybe give it a good clean including dvd drive and the buttons themselves

It will power on by this button and eject from this button but it will also sometimes for no good reason at random times push this button itself like it is being mashed.

It's normal to power on by eject, if the tray ejects randomly it's probably because the DVD-ROM driver board has a damaged trace.
