Anyone here (looks at OE) familiar with the workings of the European Xbox launch kiosk? I've obtained one and have a few queries. Firstly, as the kiosk is dated prior to European launch (18th October 2001) were the Xbox shipped with the kiosk NTSC units? The reason I ask is that when the kiosk is opened the power board has US plugs and the Xbox supplied with mine is indeed an American one. Looks like the previous owner plugged it all in and didn't realise it required a 110vac supply...pop! I actually thought I had done the damage until I realised I was only plugging in the kiosk itself, which is 240vac. Is there meant to be 2 plugs for this kiosk? One powering the lights and the other powering the Xbox & Thomson TV? In the end I stuck in a UK unit and pushed the cabling through the rear grills of the kiosk to test and it all sprang to life. Lastly, the Thompson monitor never came with a remote control, but either someone has seriously messed around with the settings or it's on it's way out as the colours are bleeding all over the place and the screen is hellishly dark. Were these standard TV's available to the public? There are no stickers on the rear of mine so I cannot tell what it is. Thanks!
Just found that it's a Thomson 21MX17E and found a spare remote supplier in the UK. Any idea about the NTSC side?
congratulations Parris  That's your first store display, isn't it? How much have you paid for shipping?
Very Nice mate! What did the other half think of it when it arrived? I never realised that they were running ntsc games???
Danke! It's was a Christmas present from my wife so I am not doing to be able to divulge costs, however it wasn't that bad according to her. I've been ill for the last few days so frankly I've not been able to do anything or go near it (as it's in the lock up, as you can see from the image). She'll go as far as letting me have one, but perhaps not in the house ;-) (Yet!) Typical eh, I am ill the day it arrives and I've had 10mins of looking over it.
Just to confirm, I replaced the damaged Thomson screen with a Philips TFT. It fits perfectly. Model number: 20PF5121/01.
Make sure you check the Kiosk very carefully for the remote - for the US / AU/NZ Kiosk's (different I know) the remote is well hidden behind in a little bracket in the top of the compartment where the xbox lives. (Its actually on a retractable type line (like you would use on a belt ID) so it can't get lost) The front controls on that versions TV are also disabled but on mine at least it was a simple open the TV and replug a single connector job to fix it.
