I just though some might be interested to take a look at a bunch of pictures from the early days of the Xbox mfg process. These were taken in one of the first plants located in Hungary. They are now made in China to reduce costs. LINK on xbox-linux.org Enjoy!
Vlad the Impaler Are you expecting to see Asians? Like atomiX said "These were taken in one of the first plants located in Hungary."
They did a round of Xbox manufacturing in Flextronics in Guadalajara. Many of the engineers that graduated or were about to graduate from my university oversaw this process, and got Xboxes quite early because of that. They don't make them here anymore, either.
yeah I agree, somehow that job would take all the fun out of the xbox. I doubt anyone wants to go home and play one after spending 8-12 hours (or whatever their shifts are) on an assembly "line" making/testing them.
I'm sure there were. Those can easily be found on ebay. Even other types of disks were forgotten in them .
Hah, a little bit of deja vu. I saw those same pics a few years ago, and yep, my first launch day Xbox was one of the Hungarian made ones. To make the supply chain somewhat efficient in the early days was build the first few units in Hungary and Mexico. The Hungarian models were mostly shipped to the east coast of the US in time for launch and the the Mexican-made units were used to supply the central and western portions of the US.
I guess the Flextronics plant here in Limerick was too cool for Xboxes - either that or the minimum wage here is too high ^_^
Oh yeah, forgot about that. A lot of Microsoft discs and packaging seem to be done here - I don't think it's Flextronics doing that stuff though.
in this day and age of technology, its interesting to see people hand assembling the units...amazed it wasnt just all automated,....
