Hi ! I saw a really cool XBOX with XMAME built into an arcade-machine, and wanted to do this myself (finally getting my XBOX to do something usefull other than collecting dust ...) I bought it used with a Modchip which allowed playing of copied discs (one came with it, so I know it works), but I do not get it to boot anything I burn (Firefox X-Disk, Evolution X etc.), so here's something I need help now: how do I know, if the bios on chip is outdated (allowing only to run signed code) or if my drive is not able to read any of the media I tried to burn on (I tried CDR, CDRW, DVD-R) ??? I have a XBOX V1.1 with a Philips drive, the modchip is a "cheapmod" ... any idea anyone ??? thanks in advance ! regards Mark
one of Xbox I use most of time has Enigmah prototype mod chip - it's 1st gen beast with 29 wires which was nightmare to install - with Samsung drive. It runs pretty much anything but lately certain rip of newer titles won't run on this Xbox or kind of touch (need power cycle to load)to load. My guess is the burn you are making is some how incompatible with your drive. If the mod chip runs rip'd DVD-R then it should run others as well... I did make few of emulators DVD-R as well as CD-R and all works just fine - I burnt them at x2 to be safe BTW. cheers
My soft mod worked great. Now my only fear is that Microsoft will put out some game that will overwrite the dashboard :smt067 (apparently the new Star Wars DVD with the Battlefront demo overwrites it). Xbox scene is a great place. Unfortunately the forums appear to house a group of retards who can't type (about like Gamefaqs).
They patch the dash/kernels according to the newest exploit (it's what I hear, anyway). I'm probably just being paranoid.
Every single xbox - even the brand new 1.6b model can be modded like this. I'd be very surprised if they could stop it at all.
I prefer the chip, that way I do not risk loosing the mod with new games ... only thing I am afraid of now: what if a new game just flashes your chip ?????? I already was able to get a disc to boot and to flash the chip, so I know, my problem is the drive .... a f***g philips ... doesn't read CDR, CDRW, DVD+R, only the DVD-R with lots of errors, I will try a brandname DVD-R today to find out if it works better ...
considering the price of 2nd hand xbox just get one for XLIVE... :-D I have one lying around for XLIVE although due to lack of time haven't really used it... :smt022
The New Smartxx has live stealth technology, thus allowing you to play Xbox Live on a modded Xbox. Sweet. :smt023
Don't know why everyone is so interested in Live!?? There are other, completely free alternatives, like Xlink and XBConnect. And M$ seem to be going on a right Live! banning mission atm. It's all very well be ing able to put your modchip into 'stealth mode', but now they seem to be looking for things on your HDD, amongst others... http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEppEElZZlNopGFgPb.php So if really are interested in Live! and you've have upgraded the HDD, it's probably worth getting a new Live only box, or wiring in your old HDD on a switch. Cos if they detect that 250GB HDD, or evoxdash.xbe on there, no more Live on that Xbox.
Ah, ye see, I haven't upgraded the HD. When I get another mod chip, I'm not going to install an additional HD. Why? I have no interest in pirating crap. I'm more interested in the cool dashes/ FTP functions etc. and 8 GB is enough, as I don't plan on getting tons of vids on it etc.
