Not my work but I found this interesting article about why cheap component cables suck so much and a possible homebrew solution to improve signal quality. https://blog.dtho.mp/2018/12/15/xosvp-intro/
Isn't there a missing part like a cable with a vga connector on one end and an xbox avip cable on the other? That cable is not the most easy thing to assemble.
Yes, the dev shows that cable at the web site linked above. Not sure if his full kit includes that cable but seems it should.
Very cool. Love technical comparisons. I must have been lucky, I got my official xbox HD box a few years ago at a good price. I have a third party box as well. I bought the official one thinking something was wrong with the 3rd party one for a long time and turns out that's just something inherent with the xbox itself and many games having aggressive flicker filters with 480i output. It'd be nice if there was a component to VGA transcoder that wasn't terrible quality that didn't cost almost 100$ or more though. (I've got two cheap ones. The rebranded monoprice once and that doesn't have 720x480 output nor does it process 720x480 properly on input. So you lose horizontal resolution. Another is the cheap Mayflash transcoder but good god that thing has so much noise introduced into the signal by the poor design or the poor power supply) I think 480p is really where the Xbox shines.
It's not easy to solder small coax cable inside a vga connector but you can reuse a vga cable from an old monitor: they are usually of good quality and they have a ferrite core near the connector. That way you only need to solder the xbox av connector (using the RGB coax for component video). The biggest drawback is that for analog audio out you need another pair of coax cable to avoid interferences and in the vga cable usually you find only 3 coax and not 5. The pcb in the photo only supports digital audio.
I had based my comment on the picture, not realising that the link to the design page was under it. If I had looked at that link I would have known the cable was included.
I don't know if that cable's included or not. Update: The complete kit ($34.99 - currently SOLD OUT) includes the short Xbox to adapter cable. Complete Kit Includes: XOSVP Main Board 3D Printed Enclosure Xbox to XOSVP Video Cable
