I got a crystal xbox. The console was opened.
I think the motherboard is version 1.6
I have error 09. The ide cable is good (tested in a pc, even replaced it with a known working one).
The ide connector on the motherboard looks good too.
The hdd is WD80EB-28CGH2 and is set to cable select.

If I connect to the xbox a regular NTFS hdd i still get error 09. Is that normal?

I made a serial cable and i've dumped the eeprom. I managed to unlock the hdd with xboxhdm. it had 5 partitions. I formated whih xboxhdm usb edition. After that i locked it back, Still error 09.

Is it possible that the mother board is bad?

I've read somewhere that it's possible that the onboard ata controller is damaged. So I heated the nvidia chip and now the console is dead.
Meanwhile I got another xbox. The board is 1.6 and it's working.
Tonight i decided to test the old dvdrom on the the new console. Guess what? Error 09.
So all the time the dvd-rom was to blame.

PS: If you connect a ntfs hdd, the error shouldn't be 09, on the good xbox i got 13.
