hi guys im new on here so if this topic has already been posted I'm sorry. I have just bought a xbox original which had a sticky dvd tray, so on looking on internet to sought it out I proceeded with the fix the xbox was once already been opened at some point by someone else upon taking the hdd out and the dvd rom unit I notice a red mod chip installed I only know its a mod chip cause I got another xbox which had the same problem (sticky tray). point is I got no idea what this mod chip is for or what it does it's wired up and a red light comes on when the console is turned on. when I press the power button on I get what you guys call the ring of death lol. flashes green/red. and nothing happens but when I press the eject button the console comes on and works perfect. long story short what is this mod chip. thanks for reading look forward to any of your answers..
Duo X 2 is the Chips name For what the Modchip does it will let you play backups from DVD-R's ect. BTW disc try out will make it boot into Normal Xbox Dash, Powering it on with it in will be telling it to boot softmod which its why your getting disco lights but sounds like its not working. Get http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/tools/slayers-evox-auto-installer-27/ burn it to Disc and install a Dash (i highly advise not installing Basic XB-Dash)
It appears to be a duo X2 mod chip. From what I've gathered online, it lets you play imports, back-ups of original discs, unsigned code (homebrew), run debug executables, and adds support for larger HDD (137GB and up). It doesn't seem to be fully wired up so that might be causing the Red ring issue. If you can, desolder the wires and see if it boots properly again. You could alse do what the original modder failed to do: finish the install. EDIT: The wire to the power/reset button board does allow switching between stock and modded.
I disconnected the chip from the main board and the console booted up normally. does that mean the chip don't work
It might not have been installed properly by the previous modder. You could try following the Duo X2 install instructions on the web and see if it works. If not, the chip is dead.
The link that Tommo92 gave was for softmods. I'm not sure on how to install it and I'm having a hard time finding installation instructions. Since it is a chip, soldering is required.
if the chips wasn't installed correctly the first time, I doubt it would have been simply left in there. Maybe it's corrupted also what does the led on the chip do, try switching banks see that small slide switch on the chip Plus this looks like a clone http://www.xavbox.com/fr/puces-xbox/duo-x2.php Try switching Bios's, if that fails do this: Download Hexen for xbox and burn to a DVD (if your drive is busted, you can use a PC ide DVD drive, just leave the yellow drive cable on the original drive), pop it into the console and turn off then turn on. It should hopefully boot the disc. Download HeXen here (this is from my TSOP tutorial so there will be extra files, you only need the Hexen iso) https://mega.co.nz/#!41cTXSiB!qoGBQ7RlzMSPyo097I4rm3hsaxS4ONOxGP9y5qr5ick
I've taken the chip out wasted 3 dvd-r and 3 cd-r disk. nothing working. thankyou all for your help in this topic
You DC'd the chip which would have allowed the disc to boot. If you left it as it was then booted the disc it may have worked also duo x 2 is normally linked to power button I think its short press normal long press hacked dash
