Hello community! I'm about to buy a PAL-XBox, I'll softmod it then with the help of HEX1GONs tutorial. Well, these are my first steps into the XBox world but I already have some worries. What about the picture quality? I currently have an HD-TV available, how does the XBox look on these modern televisions? Would it be better to look for some old TV? And how will US-Games work on my PAL-Console? Do I need an RGB cable or something so that it displays the colours? Thanks in advance! -Waffeldelta
If your TV accepts Component, get the HD AV-kit (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-XBox-High-Definition-AV-Pack/dp/B00005R6YZ). With this you'll be able to play selective titles in 480p, 720p and even a handful in 1080i. (If I recall correctly you need to set your box to NTSC-mode in order to get acces to most if these sweet screen screen settings)
Well, most of games support 480p so it will be ok for new screens. Dont use composite shit and go for quality component cables.
As the others say go for Component. Official stuff is best, but there's 3rd party cables available if you have trouble finding it. Once it's softmodded you'll be able to play NTSC games fine as long as your TV supports them (most do). You might need to change the video output on the Xbox to NTSC through XBMC or Enigmah.
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if various PAL games left in 480p. Without a dashboard option to enable it, whether the mode was stable or functioned at all didn't matter.
This one is pretty much a no-name cable I guess link. Should I keep looking for an original one by Microsoft or should I buy this one? -Waffeldelta
I've had bad luck with 3rd party cables. I'd suggest the MS ones for long term useage. As for your original question. The oXbox looks great on modern TV's (depending on the game of course). Mine is currently connected to my LED LCD and it has great picture quality, even before I had the component cables.
I bought a brand new set of third-party cables off eBay years ago & they still work fine & provided identical results. The one he linked though looks pretty cheap. Here's what I got... http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDTV-HD-HIG...ideo_Game_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1c3c04c5d1
Hell no. They are extremely crap! - Best to save up for an official set, or buy the ones CrAzY linked.
I've had these for over 6 months now and they work pretty well. They work with both my non-modded Xbox and my softmodded one.
Have an issue with my modded xbox. I originally had it on the lcd tv (sony xbr40), it played fine with the resolution turned up to 1080i. I moved it to my "retro"setup (sony crt 66cm wega) & it has a whinge. I bumped the resolution down from 1080i, 720p and finally 480i, still not keen. Had to select "no" on all acounts or set it back to pal. What would happen on the enigmah screen was the scrolling diagonal screen. This is with a component cable of course.
the only Y.Pb.Pr. cables i was able to source was a no-name set, work as good as the official m$ spdif block. (except mine has no optical/spdif out) it's fair warning to avoid em, i've had no issues but web crawling highlights many do. if you can get the m$ job, OR the industrial grade trunk known as MONSTER, you're set! :smile-new: (price WILL greatly differ, beware of that. quality demands it so look for a good deal if possible?) .... for the above response, try messing with the flicker settings in unleashx da$h. left mine at 0 values (default) and made sure it was disbaled... my sanyo POS is good for the most part, just it doesn't like some settings, really screws with overscan. ... also, the xbox is PAL-EUR at base, enigmah has been useful for a handful of games out of region, but it REALLY stuffed me with a few games. (lord of the rings the third age, image was BADLY offset used in NTSC mode, game was a PAL-EUR retail, and chronicles of riddick: escape from butcher bay even played from retail disk, wouldn't work properly loaded from ANY modded da$h, had to go green m$ for that, til a dev sorted it and barfed up an .xbe to counter the issue) ... yeah, even look at the screen settings on the tube itself. some TV's will just give the finger regardless, luck of the draw! (and the cable i have is just plain raw sync, NO CVBS sync, make sure telly setup reflects that if yours is the same) all the best! :cocksure: [edit] typo...
I probably should acquire a 50hz only game, no first hand experience in how NTSC settings deal with them. Obvious reasons stock MS dash doesn't have PAL modes.
I've had my XBOX resolution really low before, it's a glitch within UnleashX - so it maybe possible to go below 480i.
What are peoples opinions on cables from IXOS? They seem pricey, but as I understand it price does make a difference with analogue cables. Component http://www.ixoscable.com/us/ixos-search-detail.asp?Keyword=xbox&PROID=51&Category=6&SubCat=15 RGB Scart: http://www.ixoscable.com/us/ixos-se...56&Category=6&SubCat=15&Keyword=xbox&sndNxt=1
Thank you for the suggestions. That is the odd thing is the screen only goes haywire at the red "unleash" screen. I counted down 6 & when it enters the standard xbox screen all is good. I hadn't tried a game, I really only play the XBOX when my 6 yr old nephew comes over.
