That's really odd. I've never seen a recovery disc fail to boot in a debug (black or green). Have you had the chance to try a pressed debug disc or another DVD drive? (there's always the possibility of a picky DVD drive).

yes, i'm aware that retails can run debug. i use my retail console as a debug unit once in a while to test out code i've compiled.

and HI-Ricky, i wasn't talking about hardware leak but software leak of "special" MS stuff

Atomix> We're not talking about a modded retail with a hacked debug BIOS. ;)

Microsoft makes and ships plenty of Debug Kits in black cases (they're actually a bit rarer than the green ones). Ricky's got one of those, and it won't boot a debug recovery disc. FWIW, a debug kit in retail mode is still a debug kit. It won't play retail games.

yeah, i have found one of these discs as well, while fixing these at work. it gives me the same error about the region if you try to boot it in a retail. if you try to boot it in a modded system all i get is a yellow screen.

hehe, got an email about a topic subscription that hasn't been posted in for a while (this one :))

to answer your question, don't use it on a retail xbox unless you know what you're doing. XDKs and debug kits have blank eeproms. those recovery disks will wipe the eeprom clear as well as other things (attempt tsop flash, format HD and install XDK launcher dash...)

Then that debug is either hard modded or soft modded. ;)

An out-of-the-box Xbox Debug Kit will NOT run retail games with any official software.

  14. ...It's loading a BFM BIOS on top of the original Debug Kernal, 'a la' Hack_Dev_Kit ;)
