I have been speaking to someone who "claims" to own a Tony Hawks Underground 2 limited edition Xbox. Until he mentioned it to me I had never even heard of it and the only place I could find anything about it was on Wikipedia. To be honest, the guy isn't part of the gaming community, he is into boarding and suggested he bought it from a mate a while back as he was a fan of Tony Hawks. Apparently only 10 of them were ever made and they were given as prizes in a magazine. 1) Has anyone got any further information on this as he is saying he might sell it to me (and it's a reasonably cheap price). 2) As Wikipedia is put together my members of the public, is it possible (as I have NEVER heard of this edition before) that this is bs? 3) Just how valuable can a spray painted unit be? I mean it's not an official MS release, but something Activision cooked up with Tony Hawks to promote a title release? 4) I can only find a copy of the top image and was wondering whether either this guy is stringing me along (or he was strung along over its authenticity)? Does anyone know anything more about this prize? Was the full kit sprayed (top and bottom?) was it signed by Tony Hawks? Anything about the unit I could verify its authenticity? I am tempted to buy it just because the one on Wiki looks cool, but then again I am not paying for something spray painted by some damned art student rather than the real thing. Argh! I wished it was an authentic MS release, at least that way it could be verified! Parris
I dont have anymore information than what you listed, really, but have a look at this for a short sentence on it. http://www.consolecolors.com/microsoft.html#xbox That site includes the image that you have already seen, the "TOP" of the Xbox itself. Sorry I cant help you out more, but it seems like a very awesome Xbox!
Okay, thanks for that. Atleast with a second opinion from another website it seems genuine in terms of these things actually existed. It says "covered" in spray paint, but I was wondering whether that was top, bottom, front panel and whether they have managed to get MS to replace the warranty seals. If not then none of them would have been under guarantee, but that would also mean if it has been opened I can't verify whether it's real or not. I want to do a bit of homework before I accept it as frankly anyone could take an airbrush to any old Xbox and make a quick buck. I can't see this guy doing it to me, but he knows I like consoles, mentioned it out of the blue and offered it to me. That sort of thing makes me a bit suspicious really. I mean, if only 10 of them exist why the hell would anyone want to sell it? Thanks for the info though. If I accept it or get any other stuff I'll pop it on here and see whether anyone can scan their keener eyes over it. Just trying to establish what to expect if it IS real or what to look for it is a fake. Don't want to go asking TOO much at the moment in case it is real and the guy ups the price suddenly. OH:
Yep, no problem. And its always good to be cautious. Especially when dealing with something as Limited/Rare as this. I am positive that they actually exist, for I remember hearing about them some time near the release of the game. As for anything else, I am not sure. I will keep my eye out for you!
they are legit, ive actually seen one a couple of years ago, a friend of mine use to be a photographer for black label, and one of the black label skaters had one of them.
Really? Excellent, so do you remember much about it? Was it painted ALL over or just on the top. I know it's a tough one to remember but I'm trying to see whether this guy is pulling a fast one. Great news though! Hope he doesn't pull out or get a higher offer from elsewhere. I'm not even a big skating / boarding game fan. I played a few titles, but mostly for the excellent sound tracks (in particular Ace of Spades be Motorhead). Just looks cool and would be a nice bit of Xbox history.
as far as i remember, it was painted on the top, sides and front, i dont remember much about it apart from that, as i was a xbox hater at the time (until i discovered xbmc) the guy was basically lugging it around in his rucksack to take it round his mates after he'd finished skating, so the chances of that one surviving it not too good
LOL - yeah, I suspect that any units in the hands of Skaters would equal "fat chance" of surviving long.
You know, some of the people who take meticulous care of their consoles could very well be into skating too...
