Hey guys, I'm sorry to ask for help. Things were going so well :(

I have read this thread - http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?49901-First-TSOP-flash-questions - but I can't get as far as the OP there did.

First I softmodded my 1.0 xbox with SID. Opened it up, soldered the points. Put it back together, loaded up Hexen, flashed the bios. It turned off, then turned back on, and loaded back into UnleashX. Awesome, seemed all was well.

Then I took out the original tiny HDD, and put in a 500gb sata hdd with an ide - sata adapter. Online reviews of it said it worked.

Turned the Xbox back on with Hexen in the drive. Now it is stuck at "Xecuter Rox My Box" splash, after showing the flubber.

I tried to put in the old hard drive, but that does not work - beeps 3 times, then goes FRAG. I realize this is same mistake that OP in the other thread made with softmodding. But I don't care about the old hdd - I just want to get into Hexen, and format this new one. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thank you!

You may need to change the jumper setting on the sata adaptor. I forget what it's supposed to be set to. Try all 3 to see if one works (master, slave, and cs)

Thanks for the reply. Anything but the default jumper config causes the xbox to hang at "xecuter live loading" and eventually start flashing red and green. So I assume default jumper config is slave...

Seems like it's not trying to boot from the DVD rom drive 1st so it seems like it's some kind of config issue with the Sata adaptor. I had a similar issue a while ago and think I had to use a different adaptor that I had laying around.
I think all xecuter bios are supposed to boot a dashboard from DVD first if there is one in the drive.

probably next time hexagon gets on he will have a better idea what's going on.

Thanks again! Hmm..I realize now I have a JMicron controller based adapter and that it doesn't support CS, only master / slave. Is this the issue?

Thanks Hex and Mick. I burned Slayer's disc and that loads (AID and Hexen don't). I follow the prompts to format and prepare a new drive, which it says it does - and I hear the HDD writing. It goes super fast though, like 3 seconds to install all apps. It also doesn't show any data on the partitions - C,E,F,G etc all read as 0.

I get flubber and then error code 13 when I try to start the xbox without a disc.

So is this definitely the ide - sata adapter then?

The HDD is good - I formatted it in my PC, wrote data to it, etc.

edit: Really weird - I took the HDD with data on it, put it back in the xbox and loaded up Slayer's again. Tried to perform format functions and install, still doesn't do anything. Put the disk back into my system and loaded up GParted (ubuntu partition editor) and the data that was there is gone...it is listed as unallocated space.

So something was written to the disc, or atleast deleted. Kind of makes me wonder about the adapter. Any ideas guys??

I would think it's probably the adaptor. Do you have another hdd to try to rule out the xbox just not liking that one? Or have a way to format the old ide hdd and try that again with it blank?

So at your suggestion I got the old hdd unlocked and in the xbox. So that works now, but of course I want a bigger hdd for all these games. So a new adapter is ordered. Thanks again for your help.

Sucks that one didn't work. Hopefully the next one will. I know the 1st one I tried did not work either. Pretty sure it was one that someone else said they used successfully. Seems to be some xboxs are picky on which adapters they will work with.
